Ashampoo Antispyware has been given a major-point upgrade, and there's no doubt that it looks better. But is version 2 worth the $30 tag?
The program has a bothersome registration process required for downloading, something that's unfortunately becoming more common these days. However, it also has a generous 40-day trial period. The tabbed interface looks good and is clearly labeled, making navigation intuitive. The main window shows you Active functions, and one click lets you Deactivate them. The right-side column contains scan Statistics, spyware-signature file version and a link to updates, and quick links to run all the major scans.
The left-side tabs manage the Scans, Quarantine, Logs, Preferences, and Tools. There are a host of features in the last two, from whitelists and schedulers to an Internet tracks cleaner and an LSP Viewer to help manage WinSock extensions. Scan options include a full system scan--prepare for a long wait--as well as options to slice that into specific types of scans such as hard drive or Registry-only. We encountered zero problems when mucking about. No viruses were found, either.
However, there've been numerous false positive complaints, and scans detect all of your Internet cookies as minor threats. Still, Ashampoo Antispyware is a breeze to handle and has most of the antispyware angles covered.

From Ashampoo :Ashampoo AntiSpyWare 2 offers twice as much protection as the previous version. Having run a full computer scan for possible infections, the program will remove the infected files immediately. A permanent active background scanner will notify you in advance and offer real-time protection for the computer. While connected to the internet the program makes sure that new malware wont have any chance to enter your system through the back door. Virus definitions on more than 760,000 threats are already included you will be protected against. Virus signatures will be updated online on a regular basis so that your weapon never gets blunt.
Version 2 features: real-time protection of all relevant processes, an integrated task scheduler for automated scanning, is now fully compatible with Windows Vista.
Note: In order to use the trial version of the program, you will have to register for free on the developer's site.

"beats out ad-Aware 2007! read why..."
Pros: something was unstable w/ my pc but ad-aware 2007 didnt find anything & my trend security suite 2007 sent a trojan warning but said it couldn't quarintine it, etc. i came here & after researching i tried ashampoo. it found "2 trojans" & quickly removed it! about 3 days later it happened again, from downloading torrents. i followed the path to make sure none of the spyware or trojans were false positives & sure enough there they were in my files & apps. im very disappointed in ad-aware 2007 b/c the old one was so good but im glad i found ashampoo!! very easy set up too!!
Cons: if my pc likes it, i love it! ashampoo antispyware keeps my baby running!

"I'm not sure what to think any more! 3.5 stars is my rating."
Pros: After I wrote a good review on version 2, I started getting errors with the program loading with. It was something like "the feature needed for, ???? is not available" or some such thing. So far, I haven't had the issue with this release. It has a great, user friendly GUI with a few skins. The program has a large data base and it's active protection is much better then in previous releases. You can get this application cheap so it's worth having a look at it.
Cons: Issues with version 2 kept me from buying this program. Because of problems I had with version 2, I checked out a few others and found a better program. I'm hoping this release has addressed the problem.

Version: Ashampoo AntiSpyWare 2.01
Pros: It seems to be much improved. It comes with a huge signature file, looks great, scan times aren't to bad and it's the first version that I've actually seen the shields ask me a question. I believe it to be the same data base and scan engine as "A-Squared 3" but it's much less intrusive and less expensive. I bought mine thru an "Ashampoo" email that offered to let me "name the price" so I got it cheap
Cons: The company has a few deceptive sales tactics and sends plenty of spam emails but all-n-all, I believe this program was a good investment! The newest version loads and runs fine on my "Vista" system.
