Publisher's Description
From Apple Inc.:
Professional nonlinear editor available that lets you work in the entire range of professional editing formats — from DV to SD and HD — within the same affordable application. Final Cut Pro 3 allows you to seamlessly work in different modes — like editing, effects and trimming modes for example. And with Final Cut Pro’s G4 realtime effects, you don’t need PCI hardware to preview transitions and effects in realtime.
What's new in this version: Some dual processor computers may unexpectedly quit when Final Cut Pro 3.0 is installed on Mac OS X. Final Cut Pro 3.0 will unexpectedly quit when you open it if the Internet System Preference pane only contains partial information. This problem can occur on both single and dual processor computers. This Updater will prevent this problem from occurring, but it will not add information to the Internet System Preference pane.

"Stop asking me to update."
Version: Apple Final Cut Pro 10.0.4
Pros
Some people like new things.
Cons
Where to begin... Hard to come up with something that hasn't already been said, so I'll just reiterate. Even with the update, it's still just not a good product. Still missing a lot of what was great about the last FCS, the worst being that it can't import old files. Seriously Apple, what were you thinking with that. As others have said, this should have been a new FCE. The new features and interface do not overcome what is missing. Used it on another system and refuse to buy it myself. Sticking with FCS3 for as long as I possibly can. So disappointed in Apple. Worse, CNET keeps asking me to upgrade and trying to download it, no matter how many times I tell it not to. STOP ASKING!!!
Summary
Lion is kinda terrible too, but ML is ok. Would never upgrade if I didn't need iCloud as MobileMe is ending. If this is indicative of where they're deciding to take things, it does not bode well for Apple's future.

"Download it???"
Version: Apple Final Cut Pro 10.0
Pros
Interesting, but...
Cons
How the heck am I going to download this on a Telkom ADSL line in South Africa?
Summary
The rest of you can be the pioneers... I'm sitting tight with FCS3 - professional tools for a professional job. When Apple can support me with OMF export, deck control and other industry _standards_, then /maybe/ I'll upgrade... until then, why bother?

"Great feel and good speed, bad if you create footage"
Version: Apple Final Cut Pro 10.0
Pros
Great interactive feel
Very fast interactively - I have not timed specific operations
Speed of render-type effects and compositing is unbelievableCons
You cannot easily use created (as opposed to recorded) footage as any change requires a re-import and re-edit.
media management is limiting; you can use disk images though.
Implying footage from a camera copy duplicates the footageSummary
fun, but I sure would be ticked if I made a living with it. Note the price is not great - the last upgrade I got for fcs was $299 and that included all the apps as I recall, not just fcp. I like Motion 5 for the most part, kind of like the old one with a new ui and faster and slicker - kind of what I think I was expecting from FCP. Over all, I am using it since I am a one-man-band and the integrated features like color matching are great for me since before this I never bothered to spend the time doing color correction or grading.

"This product is a Huge Letdown!"
Version: Apple Final Cut Pro 10.0
Pros
64 Bit (not important though with so little professional functionality.
Cons
Everything that was professional about Final Cut studio is no longer in this App. The re-written architecture is sensless and seems to be done by a complete non-professional.
Summary
If this is Apple's step forward I will have to take 2 steps back and learn Avid and leave Mac for PC.

"Different But Better ... so far"
Version: Apple Final Cut Pro 10.0
Pros
Powerful Media Management section that enables you to find, edit and tag your media files, especially helpful in large projects with different shots. Overall faster and definitely background rendering.
Cons
The interface overall will require editors with optimised workflows based on previous version to rethink media management and get used to a more iMovie interface. Some third party plugins may not work.
Summary
Highly recommend to give it a go without replacing your current setup. You can run 2 versions in parallel without a problem. You may want to learn FCPX on smaller and easier projects first to learn as you go. There is a learning curve and some features may even be invisible at a first look. It is a disruptive approach that I think will benefit the editor down the track. It is worthwhile to start with this version and get into learning the details of this version, as I expect that future version will build upon and surely improve other things as we go.
