For one it's free. It works 1st time, every time. Super simple interface that actually makes sense to the most novice of users. It does not crash my system. Conversion goes smooth and fast. Converts most media to mp3, wav or ac3.
Cons
Will only convert to mp3, wav or ac3, but really, is that a bad thing? Audio quality from the source is fairly accurate, but for free, you really can't complain.
Summary
I've been trying to find a specific song, but could not find it on iTunes, and the CD is out of print. Using "download helper" to save a video from You Tube and then using AoA Audio Extractor to convert it to mp3 was a snap. I now have my song. And it took all of 2 to 3 minutes from my initial search on YouTube to having an mp3 ready to go. Thanks AoA.

"Polluted My Computer w/Ad-ware, Added Chrome Extensions"

Once you install it, it works as described.

I carefully reviewed all of the many option boxes that appeared during installation and generally responded "No, Thank you..." to its many offers to install additional things like a browser tool bar, etc. Despite all my precautions, minutes after installation, my Trend Micro Security Agent agent demanded to remove a chunk of ad-ware it had installed. Then I noticed my Chrome browser wasn't looking right. And my search function was no longer Google, but something else. It took me an hour or so to dig around and figure it out, but I finally found 3 extensions it had added to Chrome that had been causing the weird browser behavior.
Summary
C'mon, CNET! I trust you as my main source of downloads. But you missed the boat on this one. It polluted my computer with junk and behaved badly. Suggestions:
AAAHHHRRRGGGHHH!!! I am now in the process of figuring out how to remove "search conduit" -- a search redirect. It continues to elude me. Thanks, CNET!
1. CNET review and fix the junkware that is in this download.
2. If you really want to download it, be prepared for an hour or so of scavenger hunting to find the crap it loads.
(The program itself, however, seems to do its job just fine.)

Updated on Mar 24, 2013[Later that day...] I believe that, at long last, I have removed all the CRAPware & ADWARE that was puked upon my system by this horrible little piece of software. If you find yourself equally victimized, be advised that I went to my "Add/Remove Software" listings and found the following uninvited programs, then removed them:
* MixiDJ V8 Community Toolbar
* InfoAtoms
* Search Protect by conduit
VERY GUTSY, INDEED, to list this crapware overtly in my Add/Remove list. A couple of more notes about exterminating these:
* InfoAtoms took quite a while (?) to uninstall... and I was never given a confirmation message. But upon reboot, I can at least say that it is no longer listed in my Add/Remove list.
* Search Protect by conduit left additional fecal droppings in the following manner: It was added as one of my StartUp pages in Chrome. This required me to go to Chrome's Settings and delete it there.

"Great Software with just a few irritating downsides"

- Fast install, Small Footprint uses little CPU resource
- Uncluttered GUI, but shame you cannot enlarge it
- Amazingly Fast Extraction, even to WAVCons
- Annoying Splash Screen prompting use of the paid Platinum version, although you can work around this with a little imagination
- Nearly Every update reduces the number of video files you can batch before audio extraction. Now down to just 3Summary
Overall, this is great software. If all you want is to extract the audio from a video, then this does just that and at lightning speed. Just set your preferences (mp3, WAV or AC3, output folder etc), select the audio files, hit the Start button, and it's done, finished, over !
Have never encountered any problems with the results. It appears to faithfully reproduce the audio as on the video.
My only disappointment is that nearly every software update claims to fix bugs (which I've never encountered, but nearly always reduces the number of videos you can enter in batch mode, which is why I'm still sticking with version 2.1 which allows 8 videos in batch mode. If you do a lot of audio extraction, then it would be difficult not to consider AoA Platinum version with unlimited batch mode offered. -

I make video productions for my family, using my photography and video camera captures. These are full-blown productions, complete with credits, text and music backgrounds. At times, I would like to repeat the audio portion of a video I have taken, but could not figure out how to do this. Enter AoA Audio Extractor 2.2.8. What an amazing piece of software! The install is easy, and once up and running, all I need to do is add a video file, click to extract the audio portion and save it as an Mp3. That's it. Done and Done. These audio clips can then be used in my movies, added to my ipod, or played wherever, whenever I want to. I love it.

Worked as advertised to convert video into mp3.
Cons
Cannot save portions of the converted audio. Eg, if you want just the clip "Luke, I am your father" from Star Wars, you can't isolate and save just that portion. You'll have an mp3 of the whole move, but need something else to extract the clip.
