Publisher's description
(From Willow Software ):Anvil Studio is a program for multitrack recording, composing, and editing of music using digital audio, MIDI, and sampled percussion sounds. Audio effects include delay, pitch change, volume change, filtering, and reverse. Anvil Studio is designed for people who want to perform music with MIDI equipment, or record and edit music with MIDI and audio equipment or with a computer and sound card. It allows you to record and edit a single stereo or mono one-minute audio track, and create unlimited MIDI tracks. Optional accessories allow you to record and mix up to eight stereo/mono audio tracks.
Version 2005.03.09 features the following enhancements. When recording stereo audio, two VU meters are shown for left & right channels. View/Metronome now lets you assign a synth/bank/program. You can now double-click on PlayList (.PLY) files to launch Anvil Studio.

Version: Anvil Studio 2005.03.09
"Pretty nice considering that it is freeware"
Pros: The UI is not overloaded, and it recognizes VST Plugins. Seems to be good for beginners.
Cons: Does not recognize DirectX Plugins, you cannot resize the elements of the UI, since the wave track on the right is too small for me. Not enough features in general.

Version: Anvil Studio 2005.03.09
Pros: I used it for my midi project. Pretty easy to understand & execute. Continous updates to fixed bugs.
Cons: I wish it can display more staves instead on just one.

Version: Anvil Studio 2005.03.09
Pros: The ability to edit the different layers of sound is very good, and it's very useful for midis in general and things like ringtones. It doesn't have disabled features - it is completely free and you can save your files without hassle.
Cons: It is one of the most incredibly messy pieces of software I have used in a long time. THe layout is very unpleasing to the eye and to the brain in terms of navigating and working with it, it is cluttered and confusing. Needs a huge amount of touching up in order to be a good user friendly program.

Version: Anvil Studio 2005.03.09
Pros: I don't find the interface difficult at all - it's the easiest MIDI maker I've used. I also love that you can change the input keys from keyboard to guitar. It's easy to create new channels with loads of instrument and percussion choices, and to input the notes to a song is cake. The best thing, it's free! All the features are available and you can save everything. I've made alot of songs just using this that my band plays to this day.
Cons: Sometimes the program puts in it's own notes, or doesn't seem to cooperate all the time. Also, formatting the middle of an already finished song is difficult - the program will add it's own ties and rests where it sees fit. It also takes a while to become fully used to the program, unless you can read sheet music. But most of these flaws are once in a long while, and only happen if you use the program alot.

Version: Anvil Studio 2005.03.09
Pros: Simple enough to be used by a non-pro. Powerful enough to do what you want.
Cons: A tremendous amount of work goes into this kind of programming, so the price of the add-ons is understandable. Actually, I'm used to paying more...a lot more.
