From Willow Software :Anvil Studio is a program for multitrack recording, composing, and editing of music using digital audio, MIDI, and sampled percussion sounds. Audio effects include delay, pitch change, volume change, filtering, and reverse. Anvil Studio is designed for people who want to perform music with MIDI equipment, or record and edit music with MIDI and audio equipment or with a computer and sound card. It allows you to record and edit a single stereo or mono one-minute audio track, and create unlimited MIDI tracks. Optional accessories allow you to record and mix up to eight stereo/mono audio tracks. Anvil Studio now provides a grid to the staff editor, an on-screen guitar fretboard or piano input, support for nested loops in rhythm and piano roll editors, and native EQ.

"you can whistle compose.. how cool is that?"
Pros: right click on record.. sing or whistel into the mic, and it'll convert it into midi.. that has to be the coolest thing in the universe :-p

"Anvil is excellent Freeware."
Pros: Graphical interface....nice features and effects to play with.
Cons: Not fully loaded as Cakewalk. But very usable.

Pros: lots and lots of items to play around with. Great for beginners who know nothing about music.

Pros: I own a nokia cellphone and it can play midi files as ringtones, but it can't play a lot of channels at the same time, so, I use Anvil to fix the tune and make the prefect the pefect tune!!!

Pros: one of the ony programs that can create midi files without being a profesional, or spending weeks/months on making it, and did i mention ITS FREE! very awesome program
Cons: the only way you can enter notes is via keyboard (i think - im new with it) i wish you could click on the note you wanted it to be (on the music sheet)
