Publisher's description of Anonymous Surfing
From Omniquad:Anonymous Surfing is an Internet Explorer Proxy Manager that automatically downloads a list of anonymous proxy servers, checks them for speed, and sets the fastest one as your proxy server. Many Web sites you visit try to collect as much data about you as they can (your IP address, ISP) this information is then exchanged between advertisers.
Version 3 includes unspecified updates.

- Version reviewed: Anonymous Surfing 3
This program quickly finds proxy servers for anonymous Web surfing, but interface placed advertising distracts from the user experience. Much of Anonymous Surfing's sleek interface is used to promote other products from the publisher. The installation package downloads as Omniquad's Total Security, and that's how it shows up in Add/Remove Programs. The lengthy installation process includes numerous questions including offers for a pop-up blocker and newsletter.
The nicely designed toolbar holds four buttons, with three of them advertising other programs for download. The AnonSurf button displays an intuitive window, and you need only click a button to set the program in motion. Brief onscreen direction is all you need to use Anonymous Surfing, but there's a detailed Help file under the Learn More button. The search for proxy servers begins as soon as you start the program. The list shows the address, port, rated speed, and status. Unfortunately, more than half of the proxy servers found showed No Response. The fastest-rated server is automatically chosen, and you can immediately start surfing anonymously. As is common with free proxy servers, browser slowdown ranged from slight to considerable, but most will mask your IP address and select personal information.
The few user-set options include searching additional countries for proxy servers and enabling a feature to switch proxy servers at user-chosen intervals.
This is one of the easiest tools we've used to find and use proxies, but the program's shameless promotion of other products was distracting. Anyone who can click a button can use this program, and it offers the standard 30-day trial to test it.
