This freeware Firefox plug-in offers an FTP style manager for files stored on Amazon Simple Storage Service. Amazon S3 Firefox Organizer is easily installed and just as easily accessed through Firefox's Tools menu. You'll need to first enter your Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) account information, but that's the hardest part of using this app. The utility helpfully makes multiple S3 accounts easily accessible from a simple pull-down menu.
A combination of a file browser and upload tool, Amazon S3 Organizer's interface opens directly in Firefox as three windows displaying local files, S3 files, and a file-movement queue. A few buttons make it a snap to navigate or create directories, delete files, and move files. A pair of buttons to upload and download make moving files as easy as click the filename and then click a button.
Functions are familiar to anyone who has ever used common FTP apps. We were surprised that a drag-and-drop files function was missing from such a modern app. Users with an Amazon Simple Storage Service account should give this intuitive, effect, and free add-on a try.

Version: Amazon S3 Firefox Organizer(S3Fox) 0.2.3
"Easy to use, free, works well."
Pros: This was the first program I used to access my Amazon S3 account. It has the basic two pane layout where your local drives are on the left, and your Amazon S3 buckets are on the right. You simply select files or folders from either side and click the relevant upload/download button, which places the transfer in a queue (which starts immediately). Other features include editing the ACL (Access Control List) for buckets, files, folders, and the ability to make a public URL from files you have made readable to the public. Also, it has a very basic timestamp based Folder Synchronization option.
Cons: I have no complaints about the software as it is, however in a future version I would love to see support for creating signed URLs.

Version: Amazon S3 Firefox Organizer(S3Fox) 0.2.3
Pros: Nice interface. Makes S3 a viable cloud backup solution for non-developers.
Cons: Doesn't provide secure access. Anyone using your machine configured to access S3 will have access to your aS3 account. Do not use on public machine. Does not provide upload/download speed info.
Summary: It's a nice plug in, but be careful not to use it on a publicly accessible machine. If you do use it on a public machine make sure to remove your S3 login info when done.
