Finally, an audio converter with a civilized name. No MP3-OGG-WMA here, just the straightforward Akram Audio Converter. True to its promise, this application can transform audio files among a number of popular formats, including MP3, OGG, WMA, VOX, RM, U-LAW, and AAC. In addition, it can extract sound from Real Video files. The interface is a snap to use, offering you options for all its tools from a pleasant-looking bright-blue main screen. Akram Audio Converter lets you set the sampling frequency, mono or stereo sound, and bit rate, including a variable-bit-rate option. You'll also find a CD-ripping utility, which boasts quick performance and can retrieve track information from the Web. You may look short on paper, you can at least rip or convert full tracks with this demo, which is more generous than many competing programs. All told, users in search of an easy-to-use audio utility should keep this piece of software in mind.

"trial worked great, but waiting to get key to unlock s/w"
Pros: Downloaded a trial version, which worked great--of course, only converting 50% of your file since that's the way they lock up the trial version. It seemed like it would work like a charm, so I bought it.
Cons: After paying $24, I get an automated email that says I'll get the registration information in the next 24 hours... Are you kidding?! I download software from the Internet so I can use it NOW, not sometime tomorrow. They need to at least make this clear (that they're amateurs) up front...or get a Web person worth his/her salt. Really, really annoying. Especially since I'll need to find something else now to finish my project due today.
