This firewall offers the rare combination of a powerful feature set and an easy-to-use design. During installation, the program finds all popular network-enabled applications on your PC and automatically sets security policies for each. This eliminates the endless pop-up boxes you get with many firewalls, wherein you must allow or disallow certain processes from accessing your machine. We appreciate the ability to fine-tune all aspects of network usage using rules, and the easy-to-analyze logs are another big plus. In our tests, the firewall demonstrated good performance, successfully blocking several Trojan horses from our PC. Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro also enhances your Web-surfing experience by blocking pop-ups, Flash ads, and banners, as well as potentially dangerous elements on pages. However, the program isn't perfect. The spyware protection introduced in the newest version didn't prove very reliable in our tests, as it let some well-known offenders squeak through. It's nice the program includes a spyware scanner, but it also wasn't 100 percent thorough. Nevertheless, persons looking for a robust yet low-maintenance firewall should take a close look at Agnitum Outpost Pro--so long as they don't uninstall their other antispyware programs.Publisher's description
From Agnitum :Outpost Firewall Pro delivers proactive defense against hackers, spyware, Trojans, botnets, keyloggers, ID theft and other Internet-borne threats. The integrated anti-spyware module defends against the broad range of malicious programs. Its on-demand scanner enables scanning custom locations, while the real-time monitor is constantly on guard against the activation of spyware. The award-winning bidirectional firewall guards users' network access, keeping them safe from inappropriate connections, loss of private data, unwanted program activity. The firewall's unique Attack Detection protects LANs against man-in-the-middle attacks. The Host Protection module takes a new approach to combating malware: it pre-empts the infection by examining the behavior of a monitored object, proactively blocking it from performing any unauthorized activity. This type of defense-in-advance helps to halt unknown malware before it can activate its destructive payload. Outpost is incredibly easy to use.
Version 2009 adds Vista support, IPv6 support, enhances performance, includes new interface and accessibility scheme, adds Web and transaction safety monitoring, adds driver loading verification, extends monitoring for vulnerable system objects, adds UAC, and features FUS & Remote Desktop support.

Version: Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro 2009
"Solid protection worth paying for"
Pros: Easy to install and use. Reliable, non-intrusive, generally works well with antivirus, can be fine-tuned and set just as needed. Spyware protection built in. Deals offered on price.
Cons: May be excessive at times. Settings need doublechecking from time to time to make sure all is as it should be. Latecomer in the startup sequence.
Summary: I have been using it (first on trial) for a couple of years now, and am happy with it. This is an excellent product indeed, and if it were not for a few hitches over time, I'd give it the top rating. Ever since I installed it, the number of security... read more >>

"A cool and solid firewall. Excellent."
Pros: By far, this is the best firewall i have used. Has an Ad Blocker and Web protection which i really like, and the HIPS feature tops! Better than Zonealarm and even COMODO in my opinion.
Cons: Only few, its ad-blocker blocks almost every ad in my browsers, and even blocks images in my yahoo mail. But its ok for me, as long as i don't see annoying ads.
Summary: This is a very good firewall, and i would really recommend it to anyone. I am currently using it on my laptop and our home desktop PC, and I'm finding it easy to use. It detects the antivirus/antispyware in PC and asks the user to disable the realti... read more >>
