AdvancedDVDPlayer is a player to play DVDs, movies, songs, and image files. It not only lets you play and navigate DVD, it also plays popular file types such as DivX, MPEG, AVI, WMV, ASF, MP3, JPEG, and GIF. AdvancedDVDPlayer includes: the built-in explorer that lets you browse your computer for favorite movie clips, songs, and images, then you can create play list by drag and drop.
Pros: It does play movie files after fiddling with it. It's free.
Cons: Where to start . . First, the interface is awful! I have many movie/DVD/media players I've tried, and this one is one of the most difficult to use. Not intuitive at all. After selecting a few avi files to play, double clicking on them sometimes worked, sometimes didn't. The play button was grayed out so i couldn't even select that. When actually playing movie files, most of the time the players controls (stop, pause, play, etc.) were grayed out and couldn't work. No right click menu. No help file or index.
Each time when booting the program up you're asked if you want to upgrade to the pro version. I then looked up reviews of the pro version on download.com - they were mostly 1 star saying the program installs spyware and a virus. Sheesh. Then I looked at the many reviews already posted on this free product - an analysis shows that they follow a pattern that is very suspicious - lots of "reviewers" that may be employees.
As far as I know I haven't been besieged with spyware or viruses, but just based on the disappointing performance I've encountered I knew that this was one to uninstall 15 minutes after I put it on my system.
