- "Bye-bye, multiple chat clients"
- Version reviewed: Adium 1.3.2
One of the most popular and customizable third-party clients in the multi-service chat category continues to impress. It supports multiple services, including AIM, Yahoo, MSN, Jabber, and Napster. Part of what made the original Adium so attractive was its multitude of options, which still forms the core of this client.
This latest version is a big upgrade adding several features, fixing numerous minor bugs, and offers several refinements to the interface. Under the hood, the program is now powered by the same open-source core as multi-platform client Pidgin. Despite some file-sharing quirks, Adium X is a must-download for those looking to connect with multiple services.

Version: Adium 1.3.2
Pros: Simple, easy, announces connection of contacts. Does not inerfire with my work.
Cons: Nothing, for now.
Summary: Like very much how easy to work with.

Version: Adium 1.3.2
"Simple and functional chat client"
Pros: Easy to set up multiple accounts. Does everything it's supposed to do in an easy to understand way and doesn't have any unnecessary flash. Easy to combine contacts.
Cons: No voice or video chat. Very hard to incorporate, I understand, but still a con. Preferences can sometimes be confusing and hard to find. File transfers and direct connect are buggy.
Summary: I absolutely love Adium as my primary IM client. I use many different IM clients and it's so nice to just have one window for all of them. One of my favorite things is the ability to combine contacts over multiple IM clients. Also the Chat Transcrip... read more >>

Version: Adium 1.3.2
"1.3.1 highly unstable on my Intel MacBook (OS 10.4.11)"
Pros: 1.3.0 worked (practically) flawlessly for ICQ, AIM, etc.
Cons: 1.3.1 crashes consistently - sometimes within seconds of launching, but occasionally running until a menu item - any menu item - is selected.
Summary: Looks like the latest "fix" (1.3.0 --> 1.3.1) broke something.

Version: Adium 1.3.2
Pros: No multiple chat clients, you can link more AIM screen names than AIM will allow (AIM allows 7, Adium allows more)
Cons: logs me on and off repeatedly at times; frequently tells me my username has been logging on and off too often-even when I haven't been near my computer, crashes occasionally; often only shows part f my offline group list
Summary: Adium is about the only free option for Mac users who want a computer based (as opposed to internet based) multiple program IM client. It has its flaws, and a lot of them, but it's preferable to operating AIM and Yahoo messengers together.
