Formerly one of the most popular and customizable third-party clients for AOL Instant Messager, Adium faded from the public eye during development. The supercharged new version emerges from hibernation as Adium X. It supports multiple services, including AIM, Yahoo, MSN, and Napster. Part of what made the original Adium so attractive was its multitude of options, which still forms the core of this revision.
The latest version improves the contact list and features a refined, tabbed interface. Under the hood, the program is now powered by the same open-source core as multi-platform client Pidgin. Despite some quirks, Adium X should please fans of the original and snare new chat aficionados.
Publisher's description
From Adam Iser :The Adium team is proud to present to you Adium X, a multiple-protocol instant-messaging client. This is a culmination of a yearlong rewrite of Adium, which now utilizes Libgaim (the core part of GAIM) to connect to multiple protocols, and also is based on a new plug-in architecture. Partial address-book integration, cool-looking tabs, multiple protocols for instant messaging, and a compact contact list are some of the many features of the new Adium X.
Some core features include support for AIM, Yahoo, MSN, Jabber, Trepia, Napster, and Gadu-Gadu; unlimited accounts; as many names on as many services as you want; draggable tabs; any number of tabs in any number of windows; highly customizable yet intuitive preferences; address-book integration; iTunes and other AppleScript substitution buddy icons and away messages in AIM; and the beginnings of file-transfer support for AIM, Yahoo, and Jabber. Version 1.2.7 includes unspecified updates.

Version: Adium X 1.2.7
Cons: Takes your msn details and uses them to mess with your friend

Version: Adium X 1.2.7
"TERRIBLE if you are a former PC user and an MSN Messenger fan!"
Pros: The fact that you can talk to people who use different Messenger applications.
Cons: It doesn't support any of the popular MSN features, like voice messages and webcam. Adium is pretty much like the first version of MSN Messenger that came out in the 90's.
Apple should do something about this, since most young people in Europe and Latin America use MSN Messenger ONLY. iChat and Adium are too simplistic for being good MSN Messenger substitutes.
In short, if you are a MSN Messenger fan, you will be very disappointed and you should stay away from this program. Try Mercury 1.9. It's about 80% similar to MSN.

Version: Adium X 1.2.7
Pros: This used to be one of my all time favourite chat programs, easy to use, loved the logging, lots of personalization abilities...
Cons: Now each time I attempt to open Adium X, it crashes... completely shuts down. No matter what I try, nada.... I hate that I can't even open it so I can get the info I need from chat logs that I've kept.
