"Past its prime for the money"
Version: Ad Muncher 4.92
Pros
Can get rid of a few ads that the free adblock and other free alternatives cannot.
Cons
Still no HTTP 1.1 support, making web browsing actually slower on a number of sites even with the ads removed. Hulu now detecting Ad Muncher and no hope of having it resolved by the Ad Muncher team. New drop down menu toolbar instead of an easy right click context menu. Recent forced beta use rather than a final version to get filters updates. Being now forced into beta for filters updates, a premium paid license instead of basic paid license is required to receive some beta updates. No other paid software provider would even think of doing this. The pricing, especially the premium pricing, is not worth the the pros listed, which amounts to one pro as you can see.
With the recent beta issue I chose to just uninstall my paid basic version of Ad Muncher. The final reply from the Ad Muncher team... "You still don't get it... Take care and so long".Summary
If you download this software(v4.92 Final), be prepared to have to update to a beta version to receive filters updates(v4.92 Final no longer supported for filters updates), and be prepared to shell out for a premium license to receive some beta updates. The premium pricing is most definitely not worth the pros provided. A basic license? The free alternatives can do almost as good. ALSO NOTE: You have to pay for each PC use, whether it's basic or premium.

"Cnet installer an annoying useless piece of junk."
Version: Ad Muncher 4.92
Pros
I've used Ad Muncher on other PCs and it works quite well for my purposes. I have nothing bad to say about it, it makes web browsing and reading my web-based email a much more pleasant experience.
I have to award a star to post this, but the star is for Ad Muncher, not Cnet.Cons
The Cnet downloader came with Webroot Secure Anywhere as an optional addition. I've used Webroot products and trust them, so I clicked "agree" to install it. Without asking permission, it made a full scan of my system, found 3 instances of malware and removed them. One it considered malware was the Cnet installer. Webroot then rebooted, scanned again, found 1 more malware, removed it, scanned again foun 6 more malwares 1/2 of which were those it had removed the first two times. It removed the file I'd come to Cnet to download, I feel it did this because the installer had an .exe.exe extension, often a sign of malware. After all this, scanning/rebooting 3 times, the software I wanted from Cnet had been removed! In the future I will seek elsewhere for my software downloads, I refuse to use download.com until that irritating Installer is no longer a part of Cnet. Download.com worked quite well without that installer, and I won't visit download.com again until Cnet ceases to use it.
Summary
I've been a member of Cnet and have used download.com for many years, but the Cnet downloader is the straw that breaks this camel's back!
So long, download.com, we've had a good run, it's been good to know you, but your downloader and I simply cannot occupy the same cyberspace any longer! -

"Best ad blocker out there, by far"
Version: Ad Muncher 4.92
Pros
- Works with any browser
- Blocks most video ads, including all YouTube video ads
- Relatively inexpensive
- Low memory overheadCons
- None, I've been using it for more than a year without a problem
Summary
Perfect program, should be much more popular than it is. Every time I get on someone else's computer that doesn't have this software, I'm amazed how much junk this program blocks.
-

-Displays logs
-Simple yet informative user interface.Cons
None so far.

"Great Ad BLOCKING (not hiding)"
Version: Ad Muncher 4.92
Pros
Blocks ad instead of simply hiding them, thereby saving you bandwidth, and makeing pages load faster.
Cons
The UI could use work.
Summary
I'd like to give this 4.9 stars, but oh well. The only real improvement I can see is a reforming of the UI.

"A Little Pricey - But Still Worth it IMO"
Version: Ad Muncher 4.92
Pros
Best AD and PopUp and Proxy Program - Hands Down!
Cons
I wish the company offered a FREEWARE program version - but IMO it is still worth the money. Prior to using Ad Muncher I was using a freeware program called Serenity Ad Blocker which was pretty alternative for those who can't afford shareware.
Summary
I use Ad Muncher for AD blocking, pop-up blocking as well as site blocking. It is hands down the best AD/popup blocker type of software out there; at least that I have seen. I believe the trial period was 30-days and it costs money (it is NOT freeware) but for the trouble this program saves me daily it was well worth it IMO.
Important Note: One thing I would like to correct is the fact that the AdMuncher program is listed here at CNET as "Free to try (30-day trial); $19.95 to buy" Actually, this utility is what I call is "rentware" meaning - like many of the anti-virus type programs - the prices are different for one, two, and three years of continued updates as well as an "unlimited" updates price for approximately $80 USD in a single payment.
Back to my review: This program stops just about ALL pop-ups on the net without any complicated configuration; which speeds up page loading, thanks to the missing adverts and popups. It also blocks many other annoying site behaviors. The program uses very little recourses, it is very configurable and it ZAPS just about every single type of ad and pop-up out there.
Ad Muncher removes adverts, popups and general browsing annoyances from all popular browsers as well as most banner displaying and popup generating programs like AOL, ICQ, Morpheus, Kazaa, Grokster, Opera, iMesh, Bearshare, LimeWire, etc. -
"Does exactly what it says on the tin."
Version: Ad Muncher 4.92
Pros
Stops ALL the crap.
Cons
None that I can think of...................
Summary
I wouldn't be without it.
-
"company management is paranoid and error prone"
Version: Ad Muncher 4.92
Pros
does as it says
Cons
TWICE I have rec'd emails from Murray Hurps accusing me of installing his program on two computers in violation of his policy. determines this by using IP addresses and their changes.
Summary
NOT a professional organization. Nobody wants to spend time explaining to some looney why the ip addresses may change.
The 1st time I bought a new computer. The 2nd Time, I replaced my cable modem, router and network provider tier. He just cut me off with a threatening email. -
"Very good but could be better"
Version: Ad Muncher 4.92
Pros
Works with all browsers and updates often
Cons
Marks the web pages with [munched] when an ad is blocked, if you want to make your own filter for a stubborn ad you have to rely on the people from admuncher as they don't tell you how to do it they just add the new filter on the next update.
Summary
Very good ad blocker but could be better by making it cleaner output and more importantly being more open about the way to write our own custom filters to block ads with their software. Try Adguard it does the same with all popular browsers, with clean output, standard blocking filter rules and is half the price as Admuncher.
