Manage updates with the Download AppCNET Editors' review
One of the first applications built to find and remove adware and spyware, Ad-Aware 2007's excellent reputation is well-justified.
The interface features two skins and six tabs in the nav bar. The first two, Status and Scan, initiate file scans for adware. After scanning is complete, the program presents a results summary, followed by a line-item list from which you can select which components to remove. There is also an option to create a system restore point. Right-clicking an individual entry gives some information about suspected adware, though details beyond whether the malware is critical or negligible wouldn't hurt.
The third button, Ad-Watch, offers real-time defenses but only in the paid version. Web Update, the next button, controls definition file updates. The fifth button, Tools and Plug-ins, shows you which plug-ins are installed and controls TrackSweep, the new browsing tracks cleaner. TrackSweep is the only free function here. Smoothly integrated into the app, it wipes the cache, cookies, and history, and other breadcrumbs left by major browsers.
Settings is last, and provides access to auto-scans, browsers, scanning, the interface, and log files. The app does an excellent job of removing most malware components, although rescanning is necessary for a seriously infected machine. Despite the freeware restrictions, this is a fully functional adware remover, and Ad-Aware 2007 should be part of your arsenal.

Pros
easy download, program works well, cleans out unwanted, unnecessary cookies, free. I am staying with Ad-Aware 2007 version, because from what I read, it is better than the 2008.
Cons
I kept the old Ad-Aware SE, and I am glad that I did, because SE gives a very fast scan.
Summary
There are a few programs that I find essential to properly run a computer. First I would never be online without Norton Internet 2008, it costs, but it is worth the $.
Ad-Aware is also essential and free. Registry Mechanic is free and quaranteens registry errors, RM has saved me many times in the past, but now Glary Registry Repair is the best free software for a clean registry. Advanced Windows Care is very good, fast and worry free, just a few clicks and it cleans alot of garbage, and its free. CCleaner is great for cleanups, but you have to be careful with it, definately not for beginners. Revo Uninstaller does a great job of uninstalling unwanted programs, reaching all the hidden leftovers. Auslogics Disc Defragger works very well, but I personally loved Perfect Disk 2008 so much, that I bought it on sale.
One of the best pieces of free software that I have, I just downloaded yesterday, Malwarebytes Anti Malware, get this program now, it is perfect, the user reviews are right about this fantastic program. MAM got rid of junk that I have been trying to erase, but couldent.

The update manager needs to be fired (get! manager...fired...not funny? okay). The update manager just plain ol' doesn't work. The scan did pick up something BUT i couldn't delete it porque when it asked me to create a backup for the registry files, the "set" button was hidden under the text telling me to press it..... WHAT??? And now you have to pay for customizing the scans which I'll make clear my emotions by saying "it sucks major booty".
And the BLOAT! I thought I was bad after a slice of pizza plagued with pepper. I have NOTHING on this 2007 download. 17.32 MB? I got a couple of programs you have to pay to use, that you can easily get free by other programs offered on CNET and a lousy spyware protection program that can't even update itself properly. I think you it rock bottom when the actual program you intended to download isn't the one taking up most of the download space. *shakes head in shame*
I'd like to wait it out to see if Lavasoft issues updates to resolve the MANY bugs, but with the update manager down, I don't see that happening.
WHY O WHY lavasoft did you disgrace ad-aware so with this new edition?

will not update correctly... crashes when removing files... found 445 files said it removed 221 but crashed before it got finished... took 4 tries to download update to the definitions... interface is lousy... of the 445 entries found it said it had 3 in the total column... trash this thing and go back to the old Ad-Aware SE. The old saying is very very true, if it ain't broke don't fix it. In this case you have totally destroyed an excelent program.

Everything. Ad-Aware used to be a very respectful ad-aware and spyware remover once but it has been going straight downhill for the last year or so. In the 2006 top 10 spyware killer review by Download.com it was at the top of the list with a rating of 7.8. 2007's review comes to tell us that it's been bogged down to 10th place with a rating of 4.8. And it was still Ad-Aware SE then. This abomination called "Ad-Aware 2007" is complete garbage, doesn't detect anything and if I should pay Lavasoft $30 bucks for this then I should pay $300 to the makers Spybot S&D.
ABSOLUTELY DON"T RECOMMEND IT.

i think this version still good... not so big different with ad-Aware Se...

at the first... i feel this is better... but after that, i feel ad-aware Se is better.. other people that leave a common here is right... lavasoft try to fix something that is good, but lavasoft faile to do so... especially at the update manager part... if u use web update, it work... but if u have to use update maneger... oh that the problem... u cannot change to other window when it is downloading update... if u do so, the update maneger will not respond and freeze there... but if u let it open and not change page... there still a problem... it take long to download update... why? the updsate manager wiull download the update for ad-watch also... but in case... your version is free version... but u still have to downloud something useless to you...
