One of the first applications built to find and remove adware and spyware, Ad-Aware 2007's excellent reputation is well-justified.
The interface features two skins and six tabs in the nav bar. The first two, Status and Scan, initiate file scans for adware. After scanning is complete, the program presents a results summary, followed by a line-item list from which you can select which components to remove. There is also an option to create a system restore point. Right-clicking an individual entry gives some information about suspected adware, though details beyond whether the malware is critical or negligible wouldn't hurt.
The third button, Ad-Watch, offers real-time defenses but only in the paid version. Web Update, the next button, controls definition file updates. The fifth button, Tools and Plug-ins, shows you which plug-ins are installed and controls TrackSweep, the new browsing tracks cleaner. TrackSweep is the only free function here. Smoothly integrated into the app, it wipes the cache, cookies, and history, and other breadcrumbs left by major browsers.
Settings is last, and provides access to auto-scans, browsers, scanning, the interface, and log files. The app does an excellent job of removing most malware components, although rescanning is necessary for a seriously infected machine. Despite the freeware restrictions, this is a fully functional adware remover, and Ad-Aware 2007 should be part of your arsenal.

"Works well but is more bloated and less configuring available"
Pros: I like it because it can find things such as spyware and adware on the computer. I don't like that you can't configure it as much as the old version. Also, the main thing I think stinks is Ad-Aware component starts in the background as a service, run services.msc to see what I'm talking about. Also you can find it in Task Manager/processes tab, it takes up around 20MB of usage. The less things running behind the scenes the better in my book. The component I'm referring to doesn't run in start/programs/startup folder, it's in the windows services services.msc.
Cons: The new version has a service running in the background in the systems services (services.msc from run menu to access this), also less configuring of the program is available. I've also noticed that scanning is much, much slower. I chose not to do the full scan and it still takes WAY too long. Stick with the old version. Newer is not always better!

"Much slower than previous version, no visible improvements"
Pros: Reputable software, one of the original anti-spyware programs available. Options are easy to adjust and understand, GUI is very friendly.
Cons: VERY processor- and memory-intensive. Slows down the computer more than antivirus or other anti-spyware scans do, and it only gets worse with this new version. Update feature and actual spyware removal step is buggy. May have to consider this software not worth the time and replace with another free anti-spyware program.

"Dissapointed with new version"
Pros: scans faster than previous version
Cons: This new version is full of bugs. It is very difficult to update program; either server is too busy or an error occurs. Even when scanning - many times errors occurs and the program crashes. The previous version was much better and I never had problems with it. If u don't want to lose time and have a headache, don't use this program
