"So Much Better Than Norton Ghost"

by nero nazi on April 9, 2005

Pros: If you run xp pro and want to upgrade to a larger Hard Drive, this is the program to use. My windows xp CD exploded into a thousand pieces when it got stuck in a crappy DVD-writer and tried to force it out. This became a major problem when I wanted to upgrade HD's. I tried using ghost at first and my first 2 attempts failed. I found out later that cloning xp with ghost is a bit tricky becuase you have to do some tweaking with the HD in DOS (not my specialty ) before running the program. Finally gave up with norton ghost and decided to try Acronis. Couldn't believe it, this program worked on the very first try. All I had to do was to switch the cables and the computer booted from the clone with no problems. Best of all, the entire process is done in windows so you don't have to screw around in DOS. Based on these results, I know I can count on Acronis to back up all my drives. If you're not exactly an expert with PC's and suffer from DOS phobia like myself, Acronis is the ticket. Just one more additional note, if you only need to clone a HD and don't really need to back up drives, then just get Acronis Migration to save some cash.

Cons: Took a while to perform the duplication but that's inherent when performing this type of operation.

    "Finally something that really works"

by Obikenobi on May 28, 2005

Pros: Everything works in every way as advertised. I have used both GHOST & Drive Image for years with mixed and dissapointing results.

I am very pleased with this product. The only question that comes to mind is why did it take this long for a product of this kind to come out and really work the way it is supposed to. So long Symantec. This is the Image tool to use. Period. I have used this product with IDE & SATA drives with multiple partition configurations as a test bed for both imaging and cloning tasks without a hitch. Works on laptops as also.

"Looks great but doesn't work on my network"

by xxxRoy on March 25, 2005

Pros: Looks great and easy, inexpensive, did a very quick image create

Cons: Wants to take 10-14 hours to verify the image it created in 10 minutes! - Unusable. I worked through some checks on antivirus etc on the Acronis support forums but made no progress. Apparently there is no provision for this program to offer diagnostic information. If it doesn't work that's the end of it.

"Didn't restore - wasted my time"

by AlbertW on May 10, 2005

Pros: If it doesn't restore, what good are the pros? Perhaps if you want to mount image files as a drive letter to get/restore a few files from an image, it will work.

Cons: I thought this program was great until I tried to do a restore to upgrade my HD. It kept locking up. I managed to use the Disk Clone feature while running in Windows and it worked, but I am very concerned about having to do a restore in the event of a major failure. Will it work or will it crash and lock-up like it did so many times? It's too bad. Otherwise this would be a fantastic program.

"So I can rely on it."

by Nolem on July 5, 2005

Pros: I have been working as a developer for over 3 years. Due to regular program crashes I need to rebuild my system at least once a month and even more often. That is why I was looking for a software which saves the whole system and retrieves it back. I found a number of programs which are capable of doing this. As a real programmer I decided to test all the found demo software at first. The one I liked most is Acronis True Image 8.0.

It is simply the most convenient software.

I liked its unique features such as creating a special protected and hidden partition to store backup files. Moreover in case of a system crash you can even boot from that partition with the help of Acronis Startup Recovery Manager and retrieve your system from backup files.

I think that everything is well designed in True Image 8.0. So I can rely on it.
