"Has more bugs than the Everglades"
Version: Acronis True Image Home 2012 2012
Pros
Has lots of useful features, and when it worked, it was very good.
Cons
And when it didn't it was awful! Uninstall - works occasionally. I had to restore that hard drive from a backup!
It executes "invisible" tasks that run, even though nothing is scheduled. The tasks are left overs, but there are no control panels to delete them.
Shutdown is delayed significantly by Acronis tasks running that ultimately report they failed.
(I could go on, but I have to get back to work.)
Biggest con: It makes changes to very obscure registry entries and disk record content, to worm itself into the operating system. These changes are necessary because of the features it has, and the way the Acronis designers and programmers implemented them.Summary
There are a multitude of posting about issues people report with ATIH 2012. Just use Google and you'll find them. There are many in the Acronis user forums too.
Use this ONLY if you have regularly and completely backed up your main hard drive with another program and can restore it easily. When (not if) you have a problem, you can at least recover your data and use it after you reinstall Windows. -
"Total Garbage"
Version: Acronis True Image Home 2012 2012
Pros
Would be a great program if it worked well. Has some great features which could be used.
Cons
Constantly hangs ("not responding") in Windows 7 Pro64 for a minute or two while trying to set up or change a backup. Then it comes back for maybe 15-30 seconds or so, and then hangs again for another minute or two. So, as a result, it takes forever to set up a backup. I use TI Home 2010 now for all my backups, though it has it's own problems that I have to deal with. But at least it's better than 2012. I wish I hadn't wasted my money on 2012.
Summary
Total garbage.

"Company support and software going down hill."
Version: Acronis True Image Home 2012 2012
Pros
Earlier versions were better. Workstation versions seem better than home versions. Never had a issue with a bad backup
Cons
Support is a JOKE. Report bugs, and get run around (Duh, trying to help make the software better!!). They have no central manageable bug system accessible to their users (I've been trying to get a fix since True Image Workstation version 10. Call in every few months to re-invent the wheel) Totally frustrating. Have about 50 licenses purchased with clients. Booting Recovery media is hit/miss between minor and major versions (I keep lots of different version on hand). Recovery slow, NTFS Drives get mounted as Read only sometimes, Issues with passwords on remote shares for pre/post commands, Software sometimes becomes corrupt which requires uninstall and manual removal of left overs to allow correct operation after a new install, SSD drive (due to speed) causes issues with on startup backups to usb (OS and Acronis software come up before USB drive can be detected)
Summary
Acronis True Image has some merit; but quality of support, and quality of newer product releases have left a bad taste in my mouth.

"A little too techie"
Version: Acronis True Image Home 2012 2012
Pros
It works, backups what you want it to.
Cons
Hard to ujnderstand where you can create a CD that will restore what you already wrote to another drive. Have to search through menus to find the option for it. A little too geek oriented and not enough "helpful instructions" on the so called help screens provided. Hopefully restoring my backup drive will work, after I get done testing Windows 8 which doesnt let me use many of my programs.
Summary
It's ok for a free version, at least its free for 30 days. Not sure I would buy something that wasn't buttery smooth. It does what it's supposed to do, just not as sexy as most backup related program's I've used in the past umpteen years.

"No support for latest Intel Chipsets like the X79 /C600"
Version: Acronis True Image Home 2012 2012
Pros
- Nice interface?
- Ability to create bootable mediaCons
- Does not support Intel X79 / C600 chipsets in bootable media for restores
- Allows you to backup a Windows 7 system in continuous mode without indicating that a rescue disk will be useless
- Rescue disks use OLD versions of Linux
- Technical support forum DELETE MESSAGES TO PREVENT PEOPLE FROM GIVING EXPLICIT DETAILS ABOUT THE PROBLEMS THEY ARE HAVING!Summary
Acronis TIH 2012 does not support the latest Intel x79/c600 chipsets. Moreover, the company expects that if they do not support the hardwware you are running the backup on, that you will spend as much time as they require troubleshooting the issue. Furthermore, they do not appear to invest in hardware platforms for testing. (At least it would appear to be the case as they obviously try to get you to solve the problem by troubleshooting the issues. For example, in my case they asked me to download a ton of Linux distros to see if one supported my hardware. Of course, they all basically did... because they were MUCH more current than Acronis TIH 2012 Linux based bootable media.)
The thing that I would warn EVERYONE about is that if you are running THIH 2012 on a Windows system with continuous backup: It will backup without issue... but the if you need to restore using their backup media, and your hardware is not supported, you are hosed. I have first hand experience with this related to the Intel x79 chipset.
Acronis does not publish a specific HCL (Hardware Compatibility List), and as of 8/1/2012 it appears they do not go out of their way to tell people that the hardware they don't support BEFORE YOUR PRESS TO KEY TO PURCHASE THE SOFTWARE.
Lastly, the first level and even the second level tier support is a joke. If you give them detailed technial information, they can't work with that. Moral of the story: Don't be a systems engineer with 20 years of experience and expect technical support at Acronis to be able to understand what you are telling time.
If your computer is an old piece of poo, you're probably find. If it's a Intel x79/C600 workstation, or a Dell R815 server they all current Linux distros support... don't bet on Acronis supporting it! -
"Truly Incompetent Software"
Version: Acronis True Image Home 2012 2012
Pros
Really nothing. The software became unstable and unuseable after a recent "upgrade" abended horribly. If it worked the way the docs suggest, it would be good. But it falls very far short of being useable.
Cons
The scheduler never worked properly. The previously created full backups often were displayed as being "corrupted". User-defined settings were often simply reset at seeming random.
Tech support never even responded to my most recent issue, and I have uninstalled this software. Which is a nightmare, considering the incompetent job their so-called "uninstaller" does, leaving hundreds of registry entries orphaned and others corrupted (tdrpman.sys is now a permanent driver whether you like it or not - if you try to disable it, you will not be able to boot your machine!).
Thanks for nothing, Acronis! I didn't sign up to be a beta tester - and this package is not even good enough to be called "beta-test" level.
I give this 1 star because I cannot give it 0 stars!Summary
CAVEAT EMPTOR MAXIMUS!!! This software is bad enough to be downright dangerous!

"Find something else and spare yourself the angst."
Version: Acronis True Image Home 2012 2012
Pros
True Image Home 2010 used to work pretty well with flexible licensing so it could support multiple PCs in a household.
Cons
Acronis has totally abandoned True Image Home 2010 (it's now 2012) denying even pay-per-incident technical support. I can only believe they are trying to force users to buy their less flexible (a per cpu license) and buggy new version of True Image. Typical scripted Bangalore technical "support" service and maddeningly circular and useless web support. Added a UEFI GPT disk and the Acronis patch to support this common disk format won't install (I'm a consulting software engineer and pretty PC savvy).
Summary
They have abandoned True Image Home 2010 and I am abandoning Acronis (and Cleverbridge). There are many far better alternatives.

"Terrible is too good of a description"
Version: Acronis True Image Home 2012 2012
Pros
Once had a good reputation.
Cons
Really bad software. Should have check latest reviews. Extremely buggy software and virtually no support.
Summary
I wanted to install a larger Hard drive in a laptop without having to reinstall operating system and other editing suites. Company's description led me to believe it would do the job. I spent almost as much time just trying to get software installed and functioning as I would have just installing a clean Hard Drive and install everything from scratch. What a waste of time!

"This company has decided to commit suicide."
Version: Acronis True Image Home 2012 2012
Pros
The disk cloning utility seems to work most of the time.
Cons
Other than the disk cloning tool, version 2012 seems to be entirely constructed of bugs. I haven't seen commercial software this bad since Wordperfect 6.0 for Windows 3.1. They couldn't have made it worse if they had deliberately set out to do so. Nothing works the way it is supposed to. Their knowledge base is one enormous mass of bugs but contains no actual working solutions. Their user forum is filled to overflowing with messages from distraught customers.
Summary
Save yourself a lot of grief, and buy something else. They'll be out of business in a year.

"TERRIBLE TERRIBLE PRODUCT"
Version: Acronis True Image Home 2012 2012
Pros
HONESTLY THERE ARE NONE PROS.
Cons
100% confusing and not user friendly at all.
DO NOT GET THIS. YOU WILL REGRET.
there are hundreds of buttons that are useless and most of them just do the same thing. They tried to make it look important and special adding lots of useless staff which you will not use for backups.
IT is very confusing and there are lots of bugs. If you search online you will see how many bugs are still open.
find something else. you will regret if you get it.
