Though it lacks additional functionality beyond its main job, AccuSplit nonetheless lives up to its name by accurately splitting large files into smaller segments. This program doesn't make you wait to use it, as it immediately launches as soon as you click the EXE file. The austere interface is a real snooze to look at, but is thankfully easy to use. When chopping up a file, you can change the destination directory, specify the segment size, and choose from three split modes.

This program is particularly adept at splitting video, letting you determine precise cut points and playing the new segments separately. It also can create RAID file segments with error correction. Rebuilding files is simple and can be done with a few quick clicks. AccuSplit will be useful to anyone who archives sizable files on removable media, most notably those who regularly work with video clips.

Publisher's description

From Joseph Flynn :

AccuSplit is designed to split large files and computer videos into smaller segments to allow for archival to external media, such as DVD, CD or floppy disks. The segments can then be recombined at a later time into an exact copy of the original file. The application can segment and correctly reconstruct any file, even large Windows backup files exceeding 150GB. It also offers data compression and full error correction capabilities.

For videos it includes a special Video Smart Split mode that splits AVI, DV AVI, DivX, XviD, DVR-MS, MPEG-1, Video-CD, and WMV (even WMV-HD 1080p) videos into independently playable segments without a lengthy video re-rendering process. You can split your large video files into segments and play them back directly - no file reconstruction is required. AccuSplit offers complete support for both Type1 and Type2 DV AVI files (Digital Camcorder). Command Line support also allows AccuSplit to perform unattended operations within batch script files. Version 4.5 adds Video Smart Split support for WMV and WMV-HD format files.
