    "New breath to Address Book"

    April 29, 2008   |   By Fariborz Amirshahi

    Version: Address Book Importer 2.0.6

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I bought this marvellous application almost instantly. Now that more and more applications use Address Book as their primary database it's quite indispensible to import all your other files into it. Address Book Importer does this job flawlessly and without causing you a headache. The price is right and I even dare to say that for what it does it's even cheap! At long last I can use Address Book at its most thanks to Address Book Importer. Very well done - thanks! Fariborz AMIRSHAHI - Verona (Italy)

    "Nice Little App"

    February 08, 2006   |   By mistermish

    Version: Address Book Importer 2.0.4

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Used this little app to finally wean myself away from years of increasingly unhappy Now Contact use. A database of nearly 1000 contacts is now in Address Book.

Pluses: a very simple and intuitive interface and the ability to map Notes in NC to Notes in AB, though in somewhat garbled form.
Minuses: could do with better instructions on dealing with custom field mapping.

    Worth the $10 bucks.

    "Straightforward helper:"

    December 12, 2004   |   By espringer

    Version: Address Book Importer 1.2.3

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Flexible and easy to use. At first I was frustrated, because I assumed that AB would recognize the import as "Last Import" and would allow me to assign a group from there (AB does not recognize the new imports as the last import). But in fact one assigns the group for the import from the field-assignment dialogue. In general, this is about as good as I've seen in an import helper, and for free!

"If it goes wrong , then how do you fix it?"

    September 29, 2004   |   By Bimpens

    Version: Address Book Importer 1.2.3

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I formatted about 250 exported records in xls.
Then saved it as tab delimited text and now I have 21672 records in my addressbook.

Removing them just by deleting seems impossible.
Addressbook is already trying for a couple of hours.

Some way to stop the import when it is going wrong might be nice.

Saved me no end of grief migrating a tab-delimited Excel contact list with hundreds of entries into Address Book. Allows you to contain newly imported contacts within a group of their own. Many thanks to the author!

    "Exactly what I needed"

    September 16, 2004   |   By moofster

    Version: Address Book Importer 1.2.3

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This program did exactly what I needed - imports a text file full of email addresses. Now when someone sends an email with tons of addresses in it, I can import them all into a group in Address Book without any fuss.

This feature *should* have been built in to Address Book itself, but it wasn't. This program fills the gap nicely.

    "Fabulous Product!"

    Version: Address Book Importer 1.2.3

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Ever since PowerTalk debuted in System 7.1 Pro, I've been wanting to use a system-wide database for contacts. Now that I've gotten a PowerMac G4 capable of running Mac OS X, I'm excited to use Address Bookâ??OS X's re-incarnation of PowerTalk. I've found a glaring hole in the capabilities of Address Book, however: it seems that it cannot import tab-delimited (text) files. Instead, I'm limited to LDIF or vCard files.

Obviously this is a problem. To the best of my knowledge, only fairly recent contact managers will export in these two formats, and I've been content for a number of years to use Now Contact, which doesn't support either. Add to that my home-grown database for my business which only exports to text (and I update the export monthly) and you can see that I have a problem getting my contacts into Address Book.

It took me a while searching on Google (a seventh page link to a PDF pointed me to another location), but I found this simple utitlity that easily read my tab-delimited file; allowed me to map the import fields; and imported the contacts into the group of my choice. (Dummy me, I didn't think to look on Version Tracker first.)

It's not perfect, since it doesn't yet support all of the new fields in 10.3's Address Book, but that shortcoming is due to be fixed and a number of enhancements are planned. I'm pleased as punch to find Address Book Importer and I'm sure you will be, too.

"Yes Virginia, there is an Address Book Exporter"

    July 09, 2004   |   By John Sawyer

    Version: Address Book Importer 1.2.3

    Summary

But it's not by the author of Address Book Importer. Its reviews seem equally positive though.

Address Book Importer did a great job for me, importing most of the fields that were useful from an Outlook Express 5 exported contacts file, unlike the atrocity that is the utility named "DBF2LDIF", that doesn't even include the email address as one of the fields it converts.

    "Fantastic!"

    Version: Address Book Importer 1.2.3

    Summary

What a jewel this little program is! Its simple, clean, fast and worked perfectly for me.

I struggled for days trying to transfer my FileMaker Pro address database to the OS X Address Book via various web pages with imbedded Java script converters, and translations through Outlook Express, Netscape, and Entourage to Address Bookâ??s built-in AppleScript Importer that took 10 minutes to process 500 records - if it didnâ??t crash. Then i descovered Address Book Importer.

Address Book Importer handled my 2 addresses per record requirement and did it in seconds. Although itâ??s currently Freeware, I think they should start charging for it - its easily worth $20 or more.
