AVG Internet Security 8.0 has many new features including Linkscanner technology, which AVG Technologies acquired with its recent purchase of Exploit Prevention Labs. Overall, the product falls flat as an Internet security suite.
Missing from the suite is adequate antiphishing protection beyond e-mail blocking. AVG Internet Security 8.0 flags malicious Web sites, however, unlike the standalone version of Linkscanner there is no additional information provided about a threat. We also found the AVG suite to be resource heavy and produced false positives.
AVG installs Yahoo as the default search engine in up to two locations within your Internet browser, depending upon your installation choices. We were able to download and install AVG Internet Security 8.0 on a Dell XPS machine running Windows XP SP2 with no difficulty and without rebooting. If you are upgrading from a previous version of AVG, you must uninstall that version first before installing version 8.0.
AVG provides a fully functional 30-day trial. There are searchable FAQs on AVG's Web site with a handful of useful questions and answers. There is also a downloadable 172-page PDF users' manual that lacks a comprehensive index. AVG also doesn't provide telephone technical support or a free online user's forum.

Version: AVG Internet Security 8.0.81
Pros: I used the trial version and finally purchased the license.
1)It consumes much less system resources than previous version and other competitors.
2)Quite effective at detecting viruses, worms, trojans, spyware and adware.
3)Fast Search. although rootkit and thorough full scans takes 2hrs on P4 1.6Ghz, 512RAM, XP SP2
4)Updates are released every 3-4 hrs.
5)Easy to use interface
6)Multithreaded
Cons: 1)Price should have been lowered.
2)Does not prevent from phisphing attacks.(except while web surfing and search)
3)Firewall not very effective
4)Downloads a lot from net (for those with data based plans)

Version: AVG Internet Security 8.0.81
Pros: Same as 7.5 with added [s]complications[/s] extras
Cons: Interface (for me) harder to get on with, maybe just a matter of time.
Cannot put update into manual then pesters you by putting task bar button in an "error" mode. If you do a manual update and then reboot it pesters you to do it again as it's forgotten.
Link scanner and web shield slow browsing down to a crawl. I disabled these and put McA site advisor back on, remembering that these are only their "opinion" of a sites trustworthiness.
Avg watchdog (? eh?)is flagged as disabled, then enabled but leaves taskbar indicator in error state, with no get out (?)*
No seperate taskbar icon to indicate when system is being scanned.
Added search engine/toolbar. Excuse me, but if I want another toolbar I'll download it myself.
Never had a problem with 7.5 I.S. but when purchase time comes around if I stick with AVG (for now, probably not) it will be the A/Virus + Firewall not this.
