I explained my tech side of Antivirus and someone once said what does that mean? So here I give it to you in simple terminology I have been on the web since the day Windows-95 was released. I'm an Old fart, TRUST ME Please, AVG is putting your machines in harms way on the World Wide Web, The web is Real and has real life dangers. You need a prison fence around your machine, not Bounty paper towels --that's a fact! Would you leave your front door unlocked if you lived @ East St. Louis, Illinois. -

Firewall blocks everything randomly. I have to turn it off. some protection! No email Support. Only chat or phone. Tried chat - no agents available. Tried AVG forum. Takes 3 logons to get to it, then it fails.
Summary
I've had paid versions of AVG for years. This one seemed ok, until the firewall decides to randomly block internet access completely - especially if it's pushed hard. It's disabled right now, just to get on the internet. Support is non-existent and useless. Website is poor.

I regret having to give AVG such a poor report card. until January 1, 2012, I had very high praise and regard for AVG. After January 1, 2012, AVG reported I was not protected. I made multiple contacts with AVG and twice sent Diagnostic information to AVG with promises of 24-48 hour response from a "senior technician." We never received a response. I was very frustrated with the lack of response and anxious over my computers and devices not being protected. AVG Reps, including managers, apologized profusely and assured me they had escalated this into a "top priority." When AVG couldn't fix the problem (NDIS Driver not found) they offered to refund my money (I was paid up through 2014). I took them up on their offer and then received an email stating they wouldn't do the refund. I am very disappointed with AVG and cannot in good faith recommend their current product or service to anyone.

Within 30 days of installing the 2012 version I was hit with spyware. I called to ask for help since the AVG program said manual removal may crash my laptop. I mailed a description of the objects in question and was to receive instructions for the fix by an email. AVG failed to follow up. Ithen tried to chat with a CSR but he failed to respond for 5 minutes. After numerous delays in replying I finally told them I wanted my money back before and still expected AVG to resolve my problem. They told me the refund would be maild but refused to help as their servces were terminated.

I installed AVG Internet Security 2012 on my W7 Dell laptop and it appeared to be working OK until my DVD/CD drive would no longer work. I couldn't even eject the CD. I suspected that I would have to pay someone to fix what AVG had corrupted on my computer until I found the restore function in the Control Panel. So I restored my computer back to the state prior to the AVG installation and everything worked fine again. I have wasted a couple of hours on this software and now am requesting a refund from AVG and for them to honor the "100% Money Back Guarantee" that is stated on their website. I can assure you that refund or no refund AVG is not going to be installed on my computer again.

Did very well in malware cleanup and blocking. Little impact on performance. Antispam blocked no valid mail. New AVG Accelerator speeds YouTube, Download.com. Integrates other AVG tools.
Cons
Firewall's program control is old-fashioned. Malware could programmatically disable firewall. Antispam missed nearly half of spam. Phishing protection weak.

My computer performance showed this suite has only a small impact on system resources, and its antivirus protection is very good. However, the other suite components don't measure up to the antivirus, which you can obtain for free as a standalone product.

Once installed, AVG does it all automatically from updates to scanning! Very easy to stay protected.
Cons
The complete scan takes about an hour, you need to set it up at an unactive time which is difficult with a full house of geeks.
Summary
AVG has protected me from email viruses, and malicious websites that friends in the computer and software business have been hit by. I'm always getting emails from someone that says their email was infiltrated. That doesn't happen with AVG! Very happy with the way AVG warns you about a threat. I got it on all my computers, wouldn't logon without it!
