Though not as well-known as some competitors, this antivirus program offers rock-solid protection. AVG Anti-Virus provides all the necessities, including a tool for scanning your hard drive and e-mail, as well as a real-time shield to prevent infections.
You'll find a full-blown scheduling utility for automating tasks and checking for new definitions as often as you'd like. Other perks found in this Pro version include technical support and the ability to run on multiple operating systems. Should a virus create serious system problems, AVG creates a rescue disk to scan your computer in MS-DOS mode.
The program doesn't tax your system when scanning or when running in the background, and it always proved effective in our tests. The interface can't be described as beautiful, yet it is mostly simple to navigate.
Though the free version of this program will suffice for average folks, those who demand more control should certainly consider AVG Anti-Virus.

Version: AVG Anti-Virus 8.5.406
"worthless...even though its free...still worthless"
Pros: none absolutally none
Cons: Missed viruses. Slowed my system. Dont know how or why, but it didnt allow me to back browse until I uninstalled it. Going back to Norton, I never got a virus with it, just have to pay for it.
Summary: terrible. wouldnt recommend it. misses viruses and only detects them after computer starts acting screwey. Pay for a quality Anti-virus like Norton...well worth it in the long run.

"Great product though been placed 3rd in virus protect."
Pros: Great easy-to-navigate interface, All other features work great
Cons: newest review of free anti-virus programs put it at number 3 for virus detection. Although no personal issues so far I sort of wondered why it was so quite!!!
Summary: One of the best free anti-virus around although no personal issues myself has been known to mis some viruses. I guess use at your own descrepency.

Version: AVG Anti-Virus 8.5.406
Pros: Well, it might work, but I had to uninstall it.
Cons: SO SLOW. I didn't know my computer, which is only 1.5 years old, could go so slow. It was way worse than with Norton, and Norton was awful. all these popups... annoying things... couldn't wait to get it off my comp, and it's so much faster now.
Summary: Don't download it!

"It completely missed a known virus"
Pros: Its free, and the interface is relatively user friendly, but that's all kinda moot if it won't catch a virus.
Cons: It didn't do what it was supposed to do. It didn't protect my computer from a virus, and it didn't even let me know a virus was there so I could take care of it myself.
Summary: My computer was infected by WIN32/Virut.a. It neither protected my computer or notified me of anything until AFTER my computer started going nuts and AFTER I manually started a scan. I ended up having to take it to a shop. While there, we ran se... read more >>
