Though not as well-known as some competitors, this antivirus program offers rock-solid protection. AVG Anti-Virus provides all the necessities, including a tool for scanning your hard drive and e-mail, as well as a real-time shield to prevent infections.
You'll find a full-blown scheduling utility for automating tasks and checking for new definitions as often as you'd like. Other perks found in this Pro version include technical support and the ability to run on multiple operating systems. Should a virus create serious system problems, AVG creates a rescue disk to scan your computer in MS-DOS mode.
The program doesn't tax your system when scanning or when running in the background, and it always proved effective in our tests. The interface can't be described as beautiful, yet it is mostly simple to navigate.
Though the free version of this program will suffice for average folks, those who demand more control should certainly consider AVG Anti-Virus.

Pros: It's fast, works with Windows 7 without any glitches. And has caught everything that I've come across which isnt much. Read the FAQ's if
you are having probs. It's software and everyones experience is a
bit different and NO software is perfect.Cons: Interface is a bit too busy, the link scanner can be annoying at times
but I'd rather have it there, than not have it. Sometimes a module will
shut off, but AVG usually has a fix for it on their site. They have been
really helpfull every time.Summary: The best I have used, and will use until it stops being the easiest, fastest, and featured program out right now, bottom line. I have

"A little bit of a pain to use, but it's free"
Pros: Free free free
Cons: Turns on nag screen every time you update it. You have to turn them back off, which it does allow you to do. Consumes memory, like every other anti-virus I have ever used.
Summary: It's free. I use it and ad-aware 2008 and manually download the updates and scan about twice a month. Did I say it's free? Works for me and the price is right.

"NOT BAD....BUT AVIRA IS MUCH BETTER!!"
Pros: good product to be honest but in almost every way avira antivir is better, better detection rate, lighter on resources and a far better real time protection.
Cons: read above.
Summary: this thing has a HUGE following as it has been around for ages ( like spybot ) but in my view avira antivir beats the crap out of it in every way shape or form.
