Though not as well-known as some competitors, this antivirus program offers rock-solid protection. AVG Anti-Virus provides all the necessities, including a tool for scanning your hard drive and e-mail, as well as a real-time shield to prevent infections.
You'll find a full-blown scheduling utility for automating tasks and checking for new definitions as often as you'd like. Other perks found in this Pro version include technical support and the ability to run on multiple operating systems. Should a virus create serious system problems, AVG creates a rescue disk to scan your computer in MS-DOS mode.
The program doesn't tax your system when scanning or when running in the background, and it always proved effective in our tests. The interface can't be described as beautiful, yet it is mostly simple to navigate.
Though the free version of this program will suffice for average folks, those who demand more control should certainly consider AVG Anti-Virus.

"Better than most"

It's fast, works with Windows 7 without any glitches. And has caught everything that I've come across which isnt much. Read the FAQ's if
you are having probs. It's software and everyones experience is a
bit different and NO software is perfect.Cons
Interface is a bit too busy, the link scanner can be annoying at times
but I'd rather have it there, than not have it. Sometimes a module will
shut off, but AVG usually has a fix for it on their site. They have been
really helpfull every time.Summary
The best I have used, and will use until it stops being the easiest, fastest, and featured program out right now, bottom line. I have
never experienced slow downs, not even during scanning and
that speaks volumes about this product. I have used Kaspersky
Symantec, Mcaffee, Computer Associates, Avast and AVG is
by far the best!. -

Turns on nag screen every time you update it. You have to turn them back off, which it does allow you to do. Consumes memory, like every other anti-virus I have ever used.
Summary
It's free. I use it and ad-aware 2008 and manually download the updates and scan about twice a month. Did I say it's free? Works for me and the price is right.

Installed easily. Doesn't seem to take up a ton of resources. From what I can remember It took up 3 hours to scan an 80 gig hard drive. It would even start a scan but the timer would be stuck on 0

Would not install because I had Ewido anti-spyware installed on my computer at some point. I deleted Ewido, did a DOD wipe, 7 times over with pseudorandom data and it still wouldn't install.
Summary
It would be really useful if the program could ignore the once-upon-a-time presence of another particular spyware removal program and install. Just a bit of a hint here, because I'd love to use this product but find myself physically unable to make it work.

Summary
Good, but not great protection. I uninstalled this, installed Kaspersky and it picked up on a file that AVG said was clean
