This antivirus program offers rock-solid protection. AVG Free provides the bare necessities, including a real-time shield to prevent infections, anti-virus and anti-malware wrapped up in one engine, and a link scanner for Web surfing with care.
By default, the application is set to search for new virus definitions daily, but you always can use the scheduling tool to change this. Should a virus create serious system problems, AVG creates a rescue disk to scan your computer in MS-DOS mode. The program doesn't tax your system when scanning or when running in the background and always proved effective in our tests. The new interface is much easier to navigate than in previous version, with tabbed navigation on the left assisting users in drilling down to the tools they need.
Though the free version of this program will suffice for average folks, those who demand more control should certainly consider AVG Anti-Virus Professional.

"Great program if it would update virus definitions!"
Pros: Tells you whether websites are safe or not. Highly rated.
Cons: Every time it tries to update, I get an error message.
Summary: For a couple of weeks, AVG has shown an error message each time it tries to update. I've reinstalled it twice and still runinto this problem. I am uninstalling it now. The designers should surely fix suxh a problem more promptly.

"New Version Won't Update...No Matter What"
Pros: Like the previous versions well enough...wish I never updated to this new version. But I foolishly thought new meant improved.
Cons: Running NT and this version won't update, no matter how many restarts I do, as advised to overcome this problem. AVG is aware of this problem, but their "fix" of restarting my computer isn't working for me.
Summary: This problem should have been discovered beforehand or fixed right away, at the very least. Do I download the same version all over again and hope it works? Probably not. Time to look elsewhere.

"Says Comodo Firewall is a virus"
Pros: none right now
Cons: When I finally got it to install and scan, it identified Comodo firewall as a virus. I'm going back to my old antivirus.
