It does it's job totally.
It continually tells you when an update is ready, for your computers protection.
I have not had a problem ever with it and it's been consistent, on my computer for nearly a year now.

The fact that this software has link-scan is a bonus - i wish i had that feature about six hours ago when i picked uo a nasty infection from a suspect site and It doesn't "drag" the system startup as much as other anti virus i've used.
Cons
AVG Blocks some windows updates which is more than annoying.
Summary
This is what i call plug and play software, just load and off you go. I like this product for three main reasons, firstly because it's free, secondly because i'm able to get on-line quicker than i've been able to before due to quicker OS startup, and thirdly, because it gives you a heads-up on the more suspect web sites, the only drawback is the blocking of some security updates which means you have to disable AVG to instal the updates(which for me means removing it completely and then re-installing). Maybe i'm being slightly critical in giving it three stars - but after a long slog of re-installing all my software the last thing i want to do is repeat something i've already done - so remember update first and AVG second. So the score: a three-one win, and i'll take that any day of the week!
If anyone thinks that AVG is slowing the system down - try Glary Utilities Reg cleaner and defrag, (also freeware) and i'm going to state the obvious here - but make sure you've removed all fragments of your old anti-virus, just because you've clicked uninstall doesn't always mean you've uninstalled it. (If that baw hud went intae the back of the net - it wud ave been a goal!!! - i know, i know but some don't.)

1. Buying the Internet Security version, then using System Restore will destroy the Firewall and AntiSpam

Well, it's a decent antivirus if you add SpywareBlaster to it, but it's a heavy load and avast! makes a more friendly and faster companion on security speed, don't buy AVG because you may regret buying security that free has.
Overall, it's OK for the first time, try avast!, maybe AntiVir if your computer can handle it, Kaspersky if you want to pay for it or Norton if you risk the bad comments. -
