This antivirus program offers rock-solid protection. AVG Free provides the bare necessities, including a real-time shield to prevent infections, anti-virus and anti-malware wrapped up in one engine, and a link scanner for Web surfing with care.
By default, the application is set to search for new virus definitions daily, but you always can use the scheduling tool to change this. Should a virus create serious system problems, AVG creates a rescue disk to scan your computer in MS-DOS mode. The program doesn't tax your system when scanning or when running in the background and always proved effective in our tests. The new interface is much easier to navigate than in previous version, with tabbed navigation on the left assisting users in drilling down to the tools they need.
Though the free version of this program will suffice for average folks, those who demand more control should certainly consider AVG Anti-Virus Professional.

Summary
Installed it and used it because CNET claimed it was free for lifetime of use. After installing it 2 weeks ago. AVG pops up a message saying that that you must upgrade by Dec 1. The upgrade is not free.

Summary
After waiting half an hour for the download to complete, when I tried to run it I received an error message saying the file is corrupted. So disappointing because I had heard great things about this program. I was sooo looking forward to kicking some nasty viruses butt!
My op sys is Vista Home Premium and I tried downloading twice, using two different browsers IE7 and Firefox.

On first glance, you feel safe & protected... even with a much more complex installation. AVG was always reliable and easy to use.

With verion 8.0, each time I opened my computer brought more frequent and more prolonged freeze-ups. Don't know how editor's review could be so positive. Have un-installed AVG 8.0 altogether. Feel much better w/o it.

Ease of use, is the mainthing, and it catches even things that are problems with Microsoft.

If ALL components were included, it would be great, and if once items are cleaned and deleted (not the ones that go to the Virus Vault) were COMPLETELY deleted.
Summary
When my McAfee started "messing" with my laptop, Dell HIGHLY recommended this product and remotely uninstalled McAfee and installed AVG and I have used, and been EXTREEMLY satisfied and pleased with it. I would not change my anti-virus for anything else!! It's GRRRRRRRRREAT!!!

It's like a pnuemonia shot, if you don't catch pnuemonia it must be doing the job. On the other hand, how do you know that the pnuemonia virus even tried?
