This antivirus program offers rock-solid protection. AVG Free provides the bare necessities, including a real-time shield to prevent infections, anti-virus and anti-malware wrapped up in one engine, and a link scanner for Web surfing with care.
By default, the application is set to search for new virus definitions daily, but you always can use the scheduling tool to change this. Should a virus create serious system problems, AVG creates a rescue disk to scan your computer in MS-DOS mode. The program doesn't tax your system when scanning or when running in the background and always proved effective in our tests. The new interface is much easier to navigate than in previous version, with tabbed navigation on the left assisting users in drilling down to the tools they need.
Though the free version of this program will suffice for average folks, those who demand more control should certainly consider AVG Anti-Virus Professional.

"Tried others but this is by far much better"
Pros: This product is much quicker at startup and doesn't use a lot of space on your hard drive. It's also very easy on updates.
Cons: I can't think of anything negative to say about it right now
Summary: By far, the most versatile software and easy to use. Try this and you will quit shopping for others

"Nothing free about having to pay to join something."
Pros: Nothing, did not complete the download.
Cons: Could not get past the "join" screen. When something says free that is exactly what I expect it to be.

Pros: ease of use is exceptional
Cons: don't forget to update regularly.other than that,no problems!
Summary: get it and don't bother with any other except for ad-aware which is a must also.i have found this product to be safe and very reliable when others have failed to keep me secure.and it's FREE!

Pros: from the start it work fine, kept updating, then the trouble began. Some protection became outdate,
Cons: After it became outdate, I was unable to update it, and tried to find out if others were having the same problem and how to resolve it. Bottom line was unable to update, as of this date

Pros: nothing it's junk
Cons: Before version 8 release this was without doubt the best free prog available. but '8' is rubbish. difficult to download, lots of compatibility issues and freezes often. this version was five steps backward
