This antiviral program offers rock-solid protection for no financial commitment. AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition provides all the necessities, including a tool for scanning your hard drive and e-mail, as well as a real-time shield to prevent infections.
By default, the application is set to search for new virus definitions daily, but you always can use the scheduling tool to change this. Should a virus create serious system problems, AVG creates a rescue disk to scan your computer in MS-DOS mode. The program doesn't tax your system when scanning or when running in the background and always proved effective in our tests.
The interface can't be described as beautiful, yet it is mostly simple to navigate. Sure, you can plunk down a lot of cash for an antiviral application with more features, but AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition delivers the goods for free.

Version: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5.476
"It lags... and also no webmail and IM protection"
Pros: None!!!???
Cons: This disappoints me. it has no webmail, outlook and IM messenging realtime protection. Avast, although needs pesky registration, it is worth it. Because there is everything an antivirus must do.

Version: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5.476
Pros: I realize theres a lot of people who can't afford a quality AV scanner. well, thats fine but this one, free or not is next to useless. There are two much better free AV scanners. They are "Avast" and "AntiVir", not unnecessarily in that order. I recommend having a look at either of these before writing a useless review on a next to useless software product. "Grisoft" has to many people fooled into believing this is a good product and that includes the download.com editor who wrote this misleading 5 star review. I do not recommend this software.
Cons: It doesn't even show on most AV comparative websites. It has a couple of shields but these miss to many infections. It's not strong on trojans and has a poor removal rate in comparison to other free AV scanners. No "Grisoft" software has ever worked for me and surely, this one doesn't.

Version: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5.476
Pros: I've been using and recommending AVG free ever since is became available, even though I've have a few nasties slip through it.. I just uninstalled it to try Avast!. Wow! I'm keeping Avast!.
Cons: Better alternatives out there IMHO.

Version: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5.476
"570 reviews. 500, welcome to my world."
Pros: This app can't be found at any AV comparitive sites. Their anti malware can. Why? Because of things like these great BS reviews. This software has weak shields, average detection and poor removal. So what if it's free.
Cons: "Grisoft", stop your people from posting trash reviews every time a new number is added to this scanner. You are on my hit list because you are a vendor of bad software. I think this is one of the worst anti virus programs I've ever tried.

Version: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5.476
Pros: AVG is still a good product. It still has good protection for your computer. Yes I know there are other software scanners out there that are just as good and maybe even better. AVG is still a good product. I want to make it clear to everyone who reads this comment that I am NOT associated with AVG or download.com nor was I paid to write this review. Bashing this product or any other is not appropriate for the comment section. Just say exactly what you like and don't like about the software. Bashing is NOT a constuctive review!!!
