This antiviral program offers rock-solid protection for no financial commitment. AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition provides all the necessities, including a tool for scanning your hard drive and e-mail, as well as a real-time shield to prevent infections.
By default, the application is set to search for new virus definitions daily, but you always can use the scheduling tool to change this. Should a virus create serious system problems, AVG creates a rescue disk to scan your computer in MS-DOS mode. The program doesn't tax your system when scanning or when running in the background and always proved effective in our tests.
The interface can't be described as beautiful, yet it is mostly simple to navigate. Sure, you can plunk down a lot of cash for an antiviral application with more features, but AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition delivers the goods for free.

Version: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5.472
"Free, easy to use and very accurate"
Pros: It may not catch every thing like Kaspersky, but it catches a heck of a lot. It's free and I've been using AVG exclusively for probably 3 years straight now. And I've never looked back. Neither will you. I think if they require a paid version only eventually, I might go with it. Their software is that good. I used McAfee before and version 8.0 totally bogged down my system and the interface was a drastic change. AVG baby yeah! Keep up the good work Grisoft!

Version: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5.472
"Free antivirus... A liittle bit cumbersome"
Pros: Free antivirus... The gooood point for this is that when I am installing WindowBlinds, I was informed that I've got a trojan horse file. What AVG does is 4 choices. I chose 'Heal' and this even does not affect the installation process. Brilliant software...
Cons: What that makes me frustrated is the "Complete Test" scan. This is a compulsory scan if you've logged in to your computer the first time of the day [sorry, not the first time you use this computer]. I had to pause the scan as this consumes the RAM usage... My Virtual memory is thus plummeting into a very crucial state that a popup[XP] message ppeared on the taskbar.

Version: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5.472
Pros: Not even Macaffe or Norton are compared to this baby, the way it works and his Resident Shield works miracles. I have installed both Norton and AVG and infect the PC on purpose while AVG was screaming Norton was calm as if nothing happend... Great support and constant updating are a PLUS... I recommended to everyone...
Cons: NONE

Version: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5.472
"much faster than paid antivirus program"
Pros: before, i used other commercial antivirus programs but they took so so much time to load when my pc started. AVG loads very fast and eats very little memory. moreover, it offers decent level of real time protection
Cons: may need another antivirus only for scanning (disable real time protection since clashes may occur) if u have bad surfing habits
