This antiviral program offers rock-solid protection for no financial commitment. AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition provides all the necessities, including a tool for scanning your hard drive and e-mail, as well as a real-time shield to prevent infections.
By default, the application is set to search for new virus definitions daily, but you always can use the scheduling tool to change this. Should a virus create serious system problems, AVG creates a rescue disk to scan your computer in MS-DOS mode. The program doesn't tax your system when scanning or when running in the background and always proved effective in our tests.
The interface can't be described as beautiful, yet it is mostly simple to navigate. Sure, you can plunk down a lot of cash for an antiviral application with more features, but AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition delivers the goods for free.

Version: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5.467
Pros: Avg antivirus is really easy to use.It detects and removes virus, worms and Trojans. It has real-time protection which scans files, folders and email automatically. It is so low on memory that even won't even slow your computer down.It updates daily many times and it's free.Compare to previous versions of Avg this one has the improved detection.
Cons: No technical support and....
No web-shield
No Im and P2p protection
No network protection(traffic scanning)
No script blocking
Most of these features are available in paid antivirus and also in Avast home edition.

Version: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5.467
Pros: It's free and very light,it's suitable for computer with small ram.
Cons: AVG has a tricky interface, with minimal configurability (for example, you can't specify whether or not AVG should scan within compressed files, and there's no indication of whether or not this happens by default) and no progress bar during scanning. With such a low virus.gr rating I'm not sure I'd trust it as my only line of virus defense. After it finished its scan in only 13 minutes, having scanned a whopping 20% of the files actually on the disk, I was ready to send this one back. (AVG is so popular that I went looking for a second opinion, and sure enough, PC World ranked it second to last among virus scanners it tested.)I believe AVG performance is not as good as its popularity. My suggestion is Avast Home Edition or AOL Active Virus Shield which much much better than ****ing AVG.Beware of some high risk virus such trojan, worm and so on.AVG won't detect till your computer spoilt.

Version: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5.467
"HAD PROMISE, BUT NO SUPPORT, EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING"
Pros: Once had promise as a relaible AV, but fails big time in SUPPORT. Try another Anti-Virus program instead, if you want to avoid a major headache.
Cons: If you've used AVG in the past and want to reinstall it, you can forget about getting any support, as you CANNOT Re-register, as they will not accept your old details and you cannot get any support whatsoever from the so-called forum unless you are registered. They will neither accept your email address, or passwords you request them to send to you. Its a ridiculous situation and there is absolutely nobody to contact for help. AVG refuse categorically to address this ongoing problem, and there's no way you can even tell them about it. AVG once had promise, but this has screwed everything up for everybody, judging by their useless and totally pointless forum. Besides, you should always BEWARE of software who's only method of support is `FAQ or Forums', the latter very often having submissions by idiots who get off by thinking they sound clever.
