This antiviral program offers rock-solid protection for no financial commitment. AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition provides all the necessities, including a tool for scanning your hard drive and e-mail, as well as a real-time shield to prevent infections. By default, the application is set to search for new virus definitions daily, but you always can use the scheduling tool to change this. Should a virus create serious system problems, AVG create a rescue disk to scan your computer in MS-DOS mode. The program doesn't tax your system when scanning or when running in the background and always proved effective in our tests. This app's interface can't be described as beautiful, yet it is mostly simple to navigate. Sure, you can plunk down a lot of cash for an antiviral application with more features, but AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition delivers the goods for free. Version: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.1.4
Pros: Even if it cost you what those other anti-virus programs cost it will still be the best bet. No slow down of your system at all! I can't even tell it's running.
Cons: It's just anti-virus, no firewall. So, if you need a firewall (and Window's built-in firewall isn't sufficient) then you're going to need to install another program anyways. Usually they come in a package so you'd better off, in that case, just having your purchased virus/firewall protection (it'll use less resources than AVG and a firewall separately installed).

Version: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.1.4
Pros: It's completely free! It's what every computer user needs. It updates regularly and is just as powerfull as Norton, and uses a fraction of your resources, this program is destined to make it big.
Cons: The updating has to be done manually, but it never once requires you to re-start your system. Could you possibly ask for more?

Version: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.1.4
Pros: Finally, an antivirus that does not hog system resources. It also runs virus checks in the background daily and it automatically downloads updates. I'm in the computer repair business and will use AVG to locate and to remove viruses from clients' computers. It is easy to configure and takes up a minimal amount of hard drive space. I've performed tests against Norton, McAfee, TrendMicro, Nod32, F-Secure and found that AVG finds and eliminates/heals more than all the other antivirus programs.

"The ultimate value in anti-virus"
Pros: Totally free, excellent detection rates, email scanner, free updates forever, uses few system resources
Cons: You'll still need a firewall or NAT device for true protection, slow scanning, no real tech support (only a forum)
