Publisher's Description
From AVG Technologies USA:
Antivirus protection that automatically updates to protect you from continually evolving threats. As hackers develop new techniques, AVG's research labs are constantly processing web data to provide new defenses to keep you automatically protected. Get on with your surfing and gaming without interference. Scans operate when you are away from your PC, and it also knows when you are gaming and ensures that the security operates in the background only, leaving you free to play.
Files are checked before you download them without you having to do a thing. AVG Anti-Virus will also protect you when exchanging files through popular instant messaging like MSN and Yahoo!. You want to search and surf, but you don't ever want to go to any infected websites. AVG helps you out by clearly alerting you to threats and keeping you clear of them.
With AVG protecting your system, you can chat and message your friends on Facebook and other social networks in the knowledge that each web page and link is checked for safety. You won't pick up a malicious link from your friends--and you won't send one either.
What's new in this version: Version 2012.0.2195 is a maintenance release.

"WARNING ----- Major uninstall headaches"
Version: AVG Anti-Virus 2012 2012.0.2195
Pros
Free ---- but see the cons as to why free is not good news
Cons
AVG is much too aggressive and intrusive, especially with its takeover of my Firefox browser. Worse yet, however, is trying to uninstall AVG. I just tried to uninstall it for the third time, and, it's still on the computer ---- it is unethical for a software company to create and offer a "free" version of its software, and for the user to then find out that it cannot be properly uninstalled via the Windows Uninstall program or the CCleaner uninstall program ---- this program is acting like a virus that has contaminated a body and the virus now can't be cured or eradicated ---- I just did a Google search on the issue, and notice that many others are having the same uninstall problems.
Summary
WARNING ----- Major uninstall headaches ---- after searching the internet, you'll eventually stumble on to the solution of how to rid your computer of AVG ---- just wish AVG made that solution more transparent
