Publisher's description
From AOL :You don't have to be an America Online member to experience the immediate cross-Internet communication made possible by AOL Instant Messenger. This program allows Internet users to communicate via private, personalized text messages, and indicates when friends, family members, and business colleagues are online. AOL Instant Messenger combines AOL's Buddy List and Instant Message features, enabling users to send and respond to messages immediately. Other features include a user directory and buddy chat capabilities, personalized news, and a Neighborhood Watch feature so you can disconnect when crank chatters contact you. You also can send personalized greetings from your Buddy List, forward a copy of your Buddy List to a friend, and add your own comments to an entry on your Buddy List.
AIM 5.9 introduces You've Got Pictures, a new feature that allows you to store and share digital photos.

Version: AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) 98/ME 5.9.3
Pros: AIM has been around for who knows how long. Long enough for me to have it on every single computer i've had. It's been my favorite program to use since it has a nice interface with easy to use controls and personalization. Profiles, buddy icons, this program sports what you need to keep in touch with your friends.
Cons: Annoying little mouse over pop up ads. Easily combat it with an ad remover, just search the internet. The new trillion is bad, puts a lot of unwanted AOL spyware type programs that slows your computer down with a chunky process. Stay with the old 5 version of AIM, classic, easy, and just plain right.

Version: AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) 98/ME 5.9.3
Pros: I'm not an AOL user (is anyone these days?) but although AIM is not the most feature-packed IM, it is light on resources, offers some customization, features buddy-linking, plenty of customizable away messages, and you can get free smilies, sounds, and icons: you don't have to pay for them - just download a free theme, and remove the icon (this is the part that forces the theme to your IM) and get some other free icon; e-mail alert feature; Norton offers IM protection; and hey, I just love that stock ticker :) In short, AIM is just a great and S I M P L E IM client.
Cons: It comes bundled with the regular array of AOL/AOD crapware; viruses can be easily spread from buddy to buddy; and I'm not that crazy about the DirectIM feature.

Version: AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) 98/ME 5.9.3
Pros: Most people use it. Fast. Updated quickly. FREE.
Cons: Some viruses/worms/trojans can get through, and make you, yourself, send links with the same malware to others... I've had friends have this happen, but my antivirus caught it and stopped it from installing... BE CAREFUL...

Version: AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) 98/ME 5.9.3
"My instant messanging client"
Pros: AIM is one of the most used instant messaging clients around, so its basicly a must for some people to communicate to talk to your friends and family. The UI is basic, and the ability to have a buddy icon is nice. Also, its free.
Cons: AIM comes with spyware, and there is no tabbed windows when talking to people. Also, it has adware, so the ads takes up more memory than it needs to.
