CNET Editors' review
Remember usernames and passwords with this free password manager that's simple in design, but offers all the features you need to make logging in easy.
To use ALPass, you have to create a username and password, and you'll have to remember it since there's no way to retrieve it. The interface consists of navigational buttons, a URL field, and a tree menu that displays links for the log-in sites that you manually enter. The program can be accessed through the system tray or as a shortcut on your browser toolbar. Adding a Web site was a piece of cake as all we had to do was click the Add button. Likewise, we were able to modify and delete each username and password. The auto-fill feature quickly added our username and password when we visited one of our saved pages. The extensive Preferences menu lists a variety of auto features (auto-fill, auto-login) for you to choose, as well as extra security precautions such as enabling the auto log-out after periods of inactivity. Each option that we chose performed as promised. A Help menu is included, but even novice users will find it unnecessary.
With its effectiveness and ease of use, ALPass is a viable password manager we recommend for all users.
Publisher's Description
From ESTsoft:
Sick of remembering passwords? Tired of typing logins? ALPass remembers all your web site login IDs and passwords so you can log into web sites with just 1 click. (And even that click is optional.) New removable storage support lets you save ALPass on your USB drive or iPod. Now you can take ALPass anywhere! Getting started with ALPass is easy - just create an ALPass user account and login to your favorite web site or email. ALPass automatically prompts you to save your login and password. From there on, you never need to remember that login or password because ALPass remembers it and even fills it in when you visit that site again. While other password managers will only let you store a few logins, ALPass will let you store unlimited logins. With unlimited logins, you also get an unlimited number of users to keep data safe and secure with strong encryption. Share a computer with other people? Feel safe knowing that your information is private and safe from prying eyes. For reliability and portability, you can backup your web logins and import them back into ALPass on another computer. Backups are always safely protected with strong encryption so you can email them to yourself without worries. Security options let you balance convenience and security to suit your situation. From trusting to paranoid, you are in control. While automatic functions are only available for Internet Explorer, you can drag and drop logins and passwords for FireFox, Netscape, or any alternative browser. ALPass supports drag and drop for thousands of other programs, giving you instant access to all your logins and passwords.
Version 2.8 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.

"UNSUPPORTED"
Version: ALPass 2.8
Pros
Good password management - two years ago
Cons
Incompatible with IE8 and no plans to support it. This is essentially an unsupported product since they came out with ALToolbar as a kludgy substitute
Summary
When incompatibility with IE8 was identified in 2008, first response was "we're working on it." Then, "We have several other projects," followed by "We have AL Toolbar", and finally, "There will be no upgrade for reasons we can't discuss." This product is DOA.

"Works good once you cover all bases..."
Version: ALPass 2.8
Pros
It has a drag and drop for sites that it can't identify. All you have to do is manually enter the info once then when you visit and it doesn't respond, click on the icon, choose the info from it's box then drag'n drop.
Cons
It only works on site logins, there are no other options (such as application info).
Summary
Be as it may, this little program is a keeper.. It does the same thing that gator once did but without the constant nag to buy, It doesn't contain any spy/ malware. I use it daily as it saves me from entering my numerous email accounts all the time and it's safely encrypted. Most important, it's free! With a small section at the bottom for ads that neither nags nor irritates, I say ' Go for it '..
Have been using this gadget for a few months now and no, it does not work with IE8 (automatically) you have to manually drag 'n drop into the spaces (in opera and mozilla even that doesn't work altogether). Still it beats having to retype everytime you visit and.. isn't that the point?
