Version: AIM for Mac 1.5b4
Summary

If you want AIM client use iChat or Adium. This is a pi$$ poor effort when the Windows version does sooooooooo much more. The best thing I can say about this is it's free. -

"Stop the insanity!"
Version: AIM for Mac 1.1
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
AIM for Mac continues to show a TOTAL lack of commitment to the growing Mac market by delivering an AIM experience that feature wise is built from the ground up for the Mac platform back in 2001!
This application and AOL's other sad attempts are an embarrassment! Even Yahoo can get their voice and video working on the Mac forget that Apple's managed to get it to work. I can only pray that somehow in this economic downturn AOL finds a way to finally implode and we can all move on.
Waste of time...if all you want is Chat, use Adium, if you want voice/video, use iChat. This is a waste of hard drive space. -
"Great!"
Version: AIM for Mac Beta 6
Summary

Even though I prefer Adium for AIM contacts on the Mac, I'm glad to see AOL is taking Mac development seriously again. The improvements they've made have been terrific -- even if it's still lagging behind the Windows version. -
"Ok. I tried it..."
Version: AIM for Mac Beta 4
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
So here is my review: It's a competent AIM client for text messaging, some SMS, and a file transfer or two. It's the AIM client AOL should have released when OS X became the primary OS for the Mac. As I said, it seems to function well, and is clean UI wise, VASTLY superior to the existing AIM client. Having said all this the world has gone far beyond this today and so has the Windows client. Without video etc., it's not as good an AIM solution as iChat is and when all you want to do is text chat products like Adium allow you to use one app to chat with all platforms so I can't see where this falls? You would hope that AOL had a contract with Apple to leverage the iChat code in return for access to the AIM network but I guess that's not the case. I really see no reason for this software or the effort that's being put into it, any more than Desktop for Mac that is equally weak in comparison to it's Windows or the old OS X 5.X counterpart. With Mac share growing AOL should either work for platform parity (Windows, Mac, Linux) and differentiate itself and it's offerings that way using web 2.0 tools or close up shop. This slow bleed is hard to watch from the sidelines. If I could just run the company for a day...ugh... -
"Why bother with this crap"

This app is crap. iChat is the hands down winner. -
"Why do they bother!"
Version: AIM for Mac Beta 3
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
AOL lost it's opportunity to own the instant message application market. All they are now is like an ISP or the phone company. This is nothing but a tear off from that other misguided project AOL Desktop for Mac. AOL is trying to make a two for one here and both are subpar and years late and a million features short. You have to think that in this economy AOL needs to lay people off right? Start with this group they ad "0" ZERO value to us as users. iChat is more robust and Adium and more flexible. AOL Desktop is just a non-starter. So let's all pack it up and go home as friends! -
"Where is stock ticker ???"
Version: AIM for Mac Beta 3
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
The older AIM Messenger 4.6 use to have a share market ticker running across the bottom which was handy to keep an eye of the share price movement....Where has this gone in all these new betas ???
It is good to see AOL finally working to update the old client, however it has got a long long way to go before it replaces my old AIM Messenger version. 1 star for effort.
