CNET Editors' review
With its professionally designed and visually appealing interface, ACDSee Pro makes a good first impression. While novice users might be overwhelmed initially, the tools to organize and view images proved easy to use.
This program's sleek interface looks sharp and well-designed. Four main areas dominate the screen. The middle section, and largest, is for thumbnails of your photographs and allows you to view an entire folder's worth of shots at once. The lower left side gives a larger preview of any thumbnail you click on, as well as a small graph of its color composition. Above this box is another dedicated to navigating your computer's file trees to find the pictures you want to appear as thumbnails. Finally, the right side of the screen is dedicated to the program's options. Here you can choose to bundle, rank, and categorize your pictures.
Although the interface was beautifully designed, it was a bit overwhelming at first. It takes little time to get acclimated, though, and we found it easy to add images and create categories to organize them. Although ACDSee Pro doesn't have the full range of editing tools found in full image-editing programs, it does allow you to resize shots, batch rename, convert to PDF, and create DVDs. Less experienced users might need to refer to the Help file the first time around, but each option proved fairly easy to understand and use.
If you've already got a full image-editing program, but aren't happy with its organizational options, ACDSee Pro works well. Its cost will deter the casual photographer, but serious enthusiasts with large collections will appreciate what this tool has to offer.

I've used it for 3 months (I was testing publicly available the Beta), and cannot identify any serious flaws, as long as you accept that it doesn't try to do everything.

"ACDSee Pro 3 ? The Worst Customer Service Experience!"
Version: ACDSee Pro 3.0 build 355
Pros
Full Featured - ACDSee Pro is a fraction of cost of competition from Apple and Adobe.
Cons
ACD Systems company policies are terrible. Upgrades are very expensive.
Summary
Caveat emptor, I?ve just had my worst customer service experience in recent memory.
Having just recently started to get serious with my photography hobby, I?ve been looking around for some good photo management software. I ran across a favorable review of ACDSee Pro 2.5 in a photography magazine and since the price was less than it?s competition from either Adobe or Apple, I ended up placing an order through Amazon.com on Sept.13th for $111.99. What I didn?t realize is that ACD Systems had a 3.0 version of the software in beta-testing. ACD Systems released this software on September 29th, 13 days after I received my now-outdated version of this software.
?No worries,? I thought to myself. I received ACDSee Pro 2.5 just 13 days earlier so I should be able to upgrade at no cost or at little additional cost. At the very least I should be able to return this version of the software and get the most current version. It states on the website that I can return the software within 30 days if I am not satisfied.
Ah, but the devil?s in the details; since I purchased from Amazon and not directly from the developer, ACD System?s return policy wasn?t applicable to me, I couldn?t return the software to them. I was going to have to return it to Amazon, which would in turn charge me a very large restocking fee for returning opened software. Not good news. What is interesting about this is that ACDSee Pro is licensed software, you don?t actually buy it. I am the licensee and ACD is the licensor, it shouldn?t matter that Amazon was the vehicle I chose to transact this. But I digress.
What ACD Systems did was offer me an upgrade coupon code. Excellent I thought to myself, I?m going to have to pay a small fee to upgrade the software I?ve had for just under two weeks, but if I bite the bullet, I can have the latest up-to-date software. So I go onto the website and start to place the order, I put in my code and get my update price: $89, $20 less than the full price I paid for the 2.5 version of the same software. ACDSee Pro 3 is now looking to cost me upwards of $201! Not such a great deal anymore.
Arguments to ACD Systems that it is standard policy, for just about every software developer I know of, to upgrade someone?s software to the most current version if the earlier version is purchased X number of days beforehand fall on completely deaf ears. In fact, I am informed by their customer service department that I should have known that a new version of the software was in beta, and that it is therefore my own fault!
I was thinking I was valued customer, when in fact I?m just some really stupid guy who should be spending more time in ACDSee forums to make sure he?s not buying outdated software. Silly me, I guess it really is my own fault. Caveat emptor ? Buyer Beware. Take my advice, avoid this company at all costs, it?s simply not worth it. -
"Fastest way to manage, process and edit photos"
Version: ACDSee Pro 3.0 build 355
Pros
Great for cataloging photos, has most basic tools for quick fixing a photo and implements some unique features like light and color equaliser
Cons
If you don't read trough the help file you might miss a feature
Summary
ACDSee Pro 3 is a new step in this product development. It now implements nondestructive image processing not only for RAW files but also jpegs and other image types. It has a newly developed user interface and there are many ways of doing the same thing. Sometimes I found some not all that obvious ones by accident. But when you get to know it's GUI, working with it becomes very comfortable, fast and efficient.
