A-Squared Free seems to have worked out many of its major quirks, and has become a top-notch free malware remover.
When the program starts, it opens to the Security Status page. From there, you can run scans, update the program, access the A-Squared knowledge base and choose from among 20 display languages. Program options are arranged on the left nav: the aforementioned Security Status, Scan PC, Quarantine, and Configuration tabs. Scan PC contains four scanning options: Quick, Smart, Deep, and Custom. Obviously, Quick Scan is the fastest and most superficial, while the Deep Scan can take several hours.
If you choose a scan that examines your cookies, the app will recommend closing your Web browser. Custom lets you choose not only which folders to scan, but also lets you opt out of heuristic, tracking cookie, and spyware remnant scans. There is also a Whitelist where you can add folders or files, accessible at the bottom of the main Scan tab panel. The Quarantine tab uses a spreadsheet-style layout to manage isolated files, and the Configuration tab has options for Context menu scans, Update behavior, and Permissions settings.
There's an annoying design quirk, where important options like the Whitelist are placed in the bottom left of the active panel. But for an antimalware program that's free and doesn't install its own spyware on your machine, A-Squared 3 is the place to be.

Version: A-squared Free 3.5.0.11
"Great Ad-Aware 2007 alternative"
Pros: I recently had some problems with updating Ad-Aware 2007 and I was looking for an alternative.
I used to use A-squared Free once, but on my old computer and it had issues with updating back then as well.
But now I reinstalled it and they seem to fixed the problems and now it works well.
So, it's a great alternative to Ad-Aware 2007
Cons: None whatsoever

Version: A-squared Free 3.5.0.11
Pros: Yes, it does catch cookies but it doesn't bloat it's database with them. If you are looking for the best Anti-Trojan, then a-squared is it. It has almost 900,000 Trojans in it's database, and can detect even more with it's heuristics.
Cons: That people give bad reviews about it.

"It's not only about catching cookies and spyware, but about Worm's !!!"
Pros: Well trying to figure out why in my PC with Windows 98 after i have started there was a lot hard disk activity going on, and though i had installed and scanned with AVG 7.5 i couldn't find nothing, so i though was a Defragment problem. I couldn't Defrag the Hard Disk. so i searched for a possible Malware and i found A-Squared as a option.
My surprise, was not a simple Malware, but a WORM.
I have a PC using Windows XP, which belongs to my home network and A-Squared found the same Worm, already attached to a Winamp install file and DixV i had downloaded a couple of weeks before.
I appreciated, because i didn't know where ws the problem.

"As good as any other freeware spy remover..."
Pros: Caught an email worm on my system as well as a few other nasty spywares. Really nice interface. Frequent and fast updating. Never had a problem with false positives...that's probably because I've never used it's full scan...lol.
Cons: Scanning time is very long.
