From Emsi Software:Scan your computer for malicious software (malware), such as describes Trojan horses, dialers, worms, spyware, and viruses. A-squared Free finds and removes these pests securely. The first step is the memory scan for detecting malware. The second step is the drive scan, which scans all files on your disks for malware. Currently more than 200,000 types of malware can be removed. After the scan has finished, you can select which malware files you want to remove automatically.
Version 1.6.5 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.

Version: A-squared Free 1.6.5
Pros: Free (Obviously). I like the fact that the scanner is addded to the context menu for scanning individual files.Simple interface.Easy to use.Found a lot of traces in the directory of old programs from months ago.No email sign up.
Cons: Only one fault,The scanner,it took 1 hour 5 minutes to complete.

Pros: This is a scanner for malicious-codes which include some spyware and virus definitions, but is mostly for finding trojans. All said, it boasts a library of over 400,000 signatures that it scans for. It is a great addition to your a/v & a/s protection as it searches that "grey-area" between virus & spyware!!!
Cons: Does not offer real-time protection in free-version and will not accept yahoo or hotmail for registration (maybe that is what upset the editor that reviewed this) ***VISIT THE WEB-SITE, READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS AND I'M SURE YOU'LL HAVE NO PROBLEMS***

Pros: i have been using this along side ad-aware and SAS. over the past 3 weeks it has detected more than ad-aware witch i think is nowhere near as good as it used to be and have uninstalled it.
please not ver 2.1 is now out download.com are very far behind the times.
Cons: does miss some spyware but its first priority is trojans as someone else pointed out and it is free

Pros: it will find spyware malware and trojans i have this on my pc its free there is no need to buy antispyware programs when there is plenty of very good free ones like A-squared,spybot,ad-aware,super antispyware,ewido and other free programs for registry cleaning look no further than ccleaner, for your antivirus avg free, who needs to buy any thing not me well not yet any way.....
Cons: down side to A-squared scan time a bit long but who cares its free..

"The editors sure try to "pigeon - hole" programs."
Pros: Again, this is not an antispyware program. This is an anti-trojan program that detects some spyware. Compare it to Ewido anti-malware. A-squared has a free scanning engine with a for-pay shield option. I scan with it regularly and have already detected one trojan that my anti-virus missed. Very easy to use and understand.
Cons: None- the scanner is free.
