Version: 3GP Player 2008 1.1
"VERY utilitarian. For a freeware app, its OK despite lack of even basic features"
Pros: -- freeware
always a plus
-- intuitive and easy to use
even without reading any manuals, you'll be able to figure things out in no time. Just click Import, browse for the video file you wanna play, and open it
-- nice performance
no slowdowns or lagging in the program
-- can resize video mode window
just like with the Windows in the OS
-- quick reference sheet to video mode shortcuts
like skip forwards/backwards 10s, 1min, 10min, pause, volume control, picture control, and toggle full screen mode
The last 2 don't really apply to me. My 3GP videos are too low in resolutions and short in length to really use them.
Cons: -- you need to browse via 3GP Player to select the video you want to play...
... as opposed to having the option of double clicking a 3gp file in Windows Explorer and playing it right away, it just opens up 3GP Player where you need to drill through or out of additional directories to find what you want. Because of this reason, it's ideal if you leave all of your .3gp files in the same directory or close to each other in terms of folder navigation
-- no onscreen playback buttons
Sure, there are keyboard shortcut buttons, but they shouldn't be in lieu of onscreen buttons
-- no progress bar
No random access to random points in your video clip and no idea how far into the clip you are, (e.g. about 40% of the way through)
-- no counter with numeric indication of how long the clip is and how long you've seen and/or how much is left
These aren't exactly deal breakers.... they would be for a shareware program, but it's acceptable for a freeware app that still does what it says reasonably well. However, this program is getting hocked if I ever do find another freeware 3GP player that addresses these concerns
