More feature-packed than Windows Explorer, 2xExplorer Z1 is nonetheless so lightweight it doesn't require installation. Like Total Commander and FAR, 2xExplorer Z1 has two panels for browsing folders, and you can toggle a third that contains a folder tree. The busy interface conceals several handy options for selecting files, such as filters and Sticky Selection.
You'll also find bonus tools that let you split files, shred documents to prevent their recovery, and create hard links on NTFS drives. Power users ought to love this replacement for the Windows File Manager. It's not long on looks, but it's fast, powerful, and totally free.
Publisher's description
From ZavaraKatranemia :2xExplorer Z1 is a Norton Commander-like dual-pane file manager. Easy navigation and tool loading makes it a good replacement for Windows Explorer. It is suitable for advanced and novice users alike. Features include thumbnails for previewing images, HTML, and Microsoft Office documents; the ability to run commands (even DOS) from the address bar; more bookmarks; batch file generation with counters for mass file renaming; exclusion filters for more precise item selection; better toolbars; and an improved layout manager.

Version: 2xExplorer Z1 1.4.1.12
"Download Xplorer2 Instead!!!"
Pros: 2xExplorer is free and good, but not the best.
Cons: Xplorer2 is also free, but is better. Neither program can "undo" like the standard windows explorer can, but overall both are better. For your own sake, check out Xplorer2 before you try 2xExplorer.
Also, I feel I must quote RayOfAsh's review of this product (could this guy possibly be serious?):
Nobody use's explorer anymore, they use Internet Explorer(aka My Computer) wich has the same features but less of an eye strain.

Version: 2xExplorer Z1 1.4.1.12
Pros: Incredible FAST: doensnt ask u for any click before start (publicity, license or anything else).
Preview of pictures and files in different formats. Comfortable interface.
Developer seams to know about life... funny documentation as very useful.
It seams I have a lot of useful functions to discover here.
Cons: The drivers bar is not customizable so you will see just the symbols of your drivers but not its respective names. Not a problem if you use the tree view.

Version: 2xExplorer Z1 1.4.1.12
Pros: It's free. Thank you for making it!
Cons: It's a shell around the windows system and therefore has the limitations of the standard copy features that windows has not taken care of for decades. I find Total Commander (used to be Windows Commander) bypasses these limitations superbly (then again, it's not free). If you seriously work a lot with files, you might feel limited.

Version: 2xExplorer Z1 1.4.1.12
"Many leaps better than Windows Explorer."
Pros: No set-up, it is just there when you start it. Moving and copying files is a breeze, as is finding everything that needs to be found.

Version: 2xExplorer Z1 1.4.1.12
Pros: acceptable dual pane replacement for Windows
Explorer; Doesn't crash XP like WinEx does
when WinEx crashes.
Cons: Missing some features of other dual pane
freeware: directory/file sync;
DriveBar does not refresh without exiting &
restarting;
F12 for properties window pops up randomly
without any way to control where (unlike WinX)
