Backing up your home PC is important; backing up your office workgroup is essential. Workgroup Backup is specially designed to back up files from several computers onto a networked server. You can set the backup frequency and the number of versions you want to store. This is a fairly basic program, which lacks such common features as the ability to pack files or secure them with a password. Typically for freeware, Workgroup Backup suffers from a shoddy interface and a meager help file. To make up for the lack of documentation, the program dialogs are cluttered with instructions--a mixed blessing at best. Also, though Workgroup Backup is designed for network use, it doesn't let you browse networked computers. It's not a terrible choice for a small office on a tight budget, but some will prefer to use more polished software for this mission-critical task.

Excellent simple freebie for network backup
internetwizardNovember 2, 2005
Pros
Easy and intuitive configuration, perfect for small (>24 computers) server-based networks or peer-to-peer networks. Allows backup over network shares and it's FREE!
Cons
You need to know all the details of your network when setting it up, it doesn't autodetect for you... but hey, it's FREE!!
Summary
Take the time to set it up correctly and it's excellent

Pros
Actually copies the selected files to another location rather than creating a 'backup set' - means backed up files are accessible immediately.
Cons
Scheduling procedure is not very clearly explained
Summary
Does not install

Pros
A lot of people have downloaded it.
Cons
I can't see why so many people downloaded this application eventhough it it doesn't install.
Summary
Could be good, but no updates

Summary
The program is easy to use and has a decent user interface. I'm pretty sure it's the best free backup software out there. Unfortunately it crashes on XP SP2. A lot. The real kicker is that if you go to the website to check for updates, you'll find that it doesn't exist. Try it though: you might have better luck than me.

Summary
I recently installed this program and so far it works perfect... Its very simple and small. Doesn't have lots of extra features but it worth the shot if you want a simple free backup program.
Would not install on SBS 2003

Summary
This may be an excellent program (as the summary suggests) but it's impossible to tell. The install process fails upon asking to insert the disk containing a file apparently not included in the download! I'd love to try it when the distributor fixes that.
