Once you surmount the stability issues, you may enjoy testing your vocabulary with Word Dragon. The hangman-style game presents a dictionary definition, and you must guess the word. You earn back pieces of the scaffold for each word you complete, rewarding you for guessing quickly. The game comes with an English dictionary, and you can download more topics at the publisher's site. The interface is perfunctory, as is the help file. Unzipping the program file sets it up in its own directory, although it doesn't so much install as simply exist. The dictionary definition for "apprise" contains an example sentence, which sure made that guess easy. After each game lost, we experienced constant crashes until we re-extracted the files, at which point the program behaved. To be fair, the crashiness may be due to incompatibility with our Windows XP machine. Unless you have Windows 95, however, serious stability issues keep the otherwise enjoyable Word Dragon from being anything more than a one-time amusement.
