A few minor quibbles aside, this application presents a painless solution to the need to eliminate most traces of your computer usage. The standard grey interface uses a tabbed structure that makes it easy to configure the settings and quickly tidy up your PC. WipeOut Pro clears your Web-surfing history, cached files, and cookies from both Internet Explorer and Opera. You also can choose to clean such areas of your system as registry keys and the Recycle Bin, but you can't eliminate traces from specific applications you've used. The program reliably deletes unwanted information by overwriting it several times with random data, ensuring it cannot be restored. Unfortunately, you can't choose to delete a specific file in this way. Although it doesn't include a schedule, it can be set to wipe files whenever the computer is shut down. Oddly, WipeOut Pro also includes a disk defragmenter, a feature we consider unrelated to its primary function but nevertheless a handy addition. Even though it doesn't offer a feature set as large as that of some competitors, we feel safe giving WipeOut Pro our recommendation.

One-step clean-up

Totally customizable, cleans what I want it to clean, leaves the rest alone.
Cons
Be aware that unless you want _everything_ cleaned out, you should customize the settings right off the bat. I'm a control freak by nature, so I customized it before I ran it. Looks like some folks here might not have done that, and are not happy with the results. But the program is a good one - it does precisely what you tell it to. Computers are like that, I guess... ;-)

You're better off with East-Tec Eraser or Privacy Eraser. <p>It's another piece of intrusive, horrible software that won't uninstall itself properly either. <p>I prefer software that sits in the background and starts only when it's opened, not software that continually pops up to remind me of its presence; as there are much more important programs on my computer. <p>The results weren't that good either.

This product is garbage. It sure cleans fine, but now certain things are broken, sich as the XP start menu where it lists recently-used programs. I don't care that it was wiped, but nothing appears on the list anymore.

What more can I say. It took three days to recover. Wiped out all personal settings. Screwed up my video. I had to unwrap several layers of upgrades then reinstall the OS to get back to where I was before. Can't help wondering if the all the positives came from the people who created this nightmare!

Wipe traces of your computer usage and optimize your drives automatically. WipeOut Pro is a highly customizable privacy-enhancement, system-cleanup, and tuning tool. Securely wipe cookies, the IE browser cache, and file-access histories from the registry and recent folders list. Once the cleanup is complete, the system defragmenter will defragment your hard drive, and WipeOut Pro does all this automatically when you shut down your computer. It also turns your computer off when it's done. Customization features include the ability to note additional directories you want to wipe, additional registry keys you want to clear, and cookies you want to keep. You also can wipe files in the Recycle Bin, clear the swap file, choose the number of patterns to write to free space and registry entries before clearing, set the thread priority of the free-disk-space wipe, and delete locked files.
