• Don't be fooled, false driver update reports

  Summary

  Do not waste your time and money on this supposed driver software update. It gave me repeat popups about "outdated drivers", which I wrote down and then double-checked into my Driver Manager and System Manager. Indeed I also Google searched Microsoft site for any of the supposed driver updates. Well, my Driver Manager and System Manager disagreed with this WinZip updater. Only 1 of the supposed 11 drivers truly needed attention: my Ethernet connection which for whatever weird reason was being from normal Windows updates. Problem solved. Do not trust free software download packages like this. Your Windows system should provide you with legit supported updates. Glad I was smart before wasting my $ on false reports.

• Winzip, why pay for something you can do yourself

  Almost bought this program, it said I had 22 drivers that were out of date. Googled how to check if device drivers are up to date, very easy to do. Used the device manager from the start menu and manually found 10 drivers that were out of date. You have to do each device one at a time. It took about 30 minutes to check each driver and when it checks it updates at the same time. The WinZip driver update program said the 1 C26 chipset driver was up to date, it was not. Do not waste your money, most of my drivers were up to date and I am not sure up dating them I will see any difference in how my computer works.

  The scan lists drivers which are up to date. I physically checked 7 out of 25 and the result was that all are the latest update.

  Summary

  I called (855) 716-7029 " Live help available to find out why. However they proceeded to check my laptop and eventually I agreed for them to perform a service for me which cost $265 for a year. After this service I ran the trial version of Winzip again and the result 28 out of date. I still did not get a copy of the Driver Updater after paying that amount. I have been a Winzip customer since Winzip 5 which is well over 20 years. I am very skeptical about Winzip products and would not recommend any to anyone nor buy a Winzip product again.

• "Free" isn't really Free

  When you (& I) first install it, Its classified as Trial-ware, & it will find Problems with drivers. Found 6 Drivers out-dated.. See Cons for the finish...

  The Trial-Ware will find the problems But unless I pay them for their "Pro" version, I can't use it to fix the driver problems.. And to boot.. I paid for the pro version but guess what.. When I ran WinZip Driver updater after paying for it, It didn't even find 1 out-dated Driver..

• Difference between Trial & Purchased

  I purchased the software with the optional extra update (part of Winzip Utilities Suite) as the trial highlighted a problem I was trying to resolve with a coprocessor driver which appeared after installing Win8 x64, plus 11 other out-of-date drivers. After buying, installing, and activating the software, running a scan, no out-of-date drivers were found! After re-running the 'trial', all 12 out-of-drivers were again reported. Somehow I feel conned, and will request a refund under the 30 day refund scheme as there are clearly two different camps when it comes to updating drivers.

  Ever have that felling you're being ripped off? Its not a nice feeling is it? Well you will get this feeling if you decide to use this program. Why? Well think about what drivers are. They are basically pieces of software that allow your computer to communicate with a particular hardware device. Usually when you have to install a new printer, scanner or similar devices you also need to install divers. They come free with your device. And if newer versions are available they are also free, you just need to go to their respective websites and see if there are new drivers available. You first probably need to find out what version of drivers you have, just use Google to do that, then check the versions of the drivers for all the hardware you have, which will probably be 4 or more devices, (one for graphics, sound, network card etc..) you then have to check the individual sites. One thing you should understand is that drivers don't get updated often, except for graphics drivers. Even then if your computer is working fine you probably don't need new drivers. If your computer has certain problems that could be linked to hardware issues then updating your drivers could help. There are many free ways to update every driver on your computer for free (use Google!)without having to resort to this, this thing. You don't really need to update drivers often. For graphics drivers, they may have an automatic way to update, or you can just go to their website, type in the particular number and see if there are any recent additions.

• Winzip Driver Updater only allows 3 installs

  There are no pros. I only got to use it once so I really don't know whether it's any good.

  Cons

  Tough luck if you have to reinstall Winzip Driver Updater because of a computer problem. You only get 3 chances. Then you can wait 6 years for another go if you are patient.

  Summary

  I will never buy a Winzip product ever again.
