Although its plain-Jane layout appears simplistic, Windows System Optimizer has some decent cleanup features. Clearing out some Windows traces such as the Recycle Bin, MRUs, the Clipboard, and the Recent Documents list are easily done, and getting rid of superfluous shortcuts, orphaned files, and any others you define is virtually effortless. The program also lists unnecessary files stored on your system for selective deletion and gives a brief description of them. Some online histories such as cookies, caches, favorites, and URLs are up for removal; sorry to say they are limited to Internet Explorer users. We especially appreciate Windows System Optimizer's uninstaller for undesired programs, the start-up program manager, and the backup option for just-in-case purposes. The application presents us with a proficient report of what was cleared and when, along with the number of items removed and the space regained. You have 15 days or 30 uses to try it out, but it works well at cleaning up your system and is far from complicated.
