This disappointing application mirrors Windows' default Disk Cleanup, adding some confusion and a couple of minor cleanup options while subtracting helpful information. The puzzling registration dialog box references another program, but does actually open Windows Mess Cleaner once you select the Remind Me Later option. Windows Mess Cleaner's interface, which won't win any design contests, copies that of Disk Cleanup. Unlike the Disk Cleanup interface, however, this one fails to show the amount of disk space you can free in each category, which puts users at a disadvantage. Windows Mess Cleaner does what it promises, easily removing unnecessary junk files, such as offline files, temporary Internet files, and the Recycle Bin, as does Disk Cleanup. It also can delete Debug Dump Files and Old Chkdsk Files, options not found in Disk Cleanup. Though this program does its job, we can find no compelling reason to download this 15-day trial.
