  The update tells me that I don't have the right version of Windows. I have 98 SE and I am using 1.4 for 98 SE. After reading some of the comments here, that might be a good thing.

  As soon as I installed this awful update it crashed the TCP/IP stack and uninstalling it did not fix the problem. The only thing that will fix it is to uninstall DUN (dont reboot!), delete the HKEYLOCALMACHINES-System-CurrentControlSet-Services-Winsock2 key from the registry, reinstall DUN, and finally reboot your system. That should enable you to get back online immediately.

  Do not download this upgrade to Windows98 SE. Still having problems starting my computer. Startup always askes for ndiswan.nxd fil which is not on the 98 SE CD.

  I too,like many people installed this "wicked" update and could not get signed on to my ISP after that. This went on for several days before I had to reformat and install Windows again. Install At Your Own Risk!

  shame on CNET for not having posted one of the neg. comments on the main page. since it's a minor MS upgrade, i installed it w/o question. huge mistake. i had the same probs as many people here. i could not connect. i spent three hrs and had to go to my parents' to get online and find a solution. no MS phone support either. MANY thanks to the anon. person who said to unins. DUN, don't reboot but del the HKLM-System-CurrentControlSet-Services-Winsock2 key from the Registry, and reins. DUN (then reboot) - that fixed it. phew.

  i personally haven't installed it. but from what i read of others' experiences, i think it's a hornet's nest best left alone. afterall, who needs 128-bit encryption at the risk of a reformat or not being able to connect at all. there is no other reason to install this program other than being excessively paranoid about security
