Editors’ Review
The plaintive cry of many a user is answered with this information collection and display tool, though stability problems marred testing.
WhatsGoingOnInMyPC's primary DOS-like interface is supplemented by spreadsheet-style informational displays. Most visible is a desktop string of information that displays date, time, processor load, processes, threads, available memory, hard drive load, or any combination of the six. You can easily drag the text anywhere on your desktop. We missed the ability to create a background color behind the text. The display cycles quickly as the information updates, but not too fast to see. A separate DOS-style box displays any of eight types of events as they happen. A simple click from the program's tray menu opens a list of running processes. From there you can quickly kill, freeze, or change the priority of any running process.
This utility also displays capsule information about each process found in its database. A similar display of running services, connections, and open shares is easily sorted, but gives far less information for each item. We sporadically experienced stability problems when changing settings or when opening too many displays. Nonetheless, advanced users, system administrators, or those trying to track down errant processes will find this utility helpful.
