The trial version of Webcam Desktop Theater has five minutes at a time to compel you to register, so it works its charms quickly. You can view a Webcam thumbnail by double-clicking its name in the list. To see one at full size, click once on the thumbnail. You can zoom that main view up to five times its actual size. With a name, the URL, and a refresh rate, you can add your own Webcams. Even when the trial times out, the program remembers your changes to the list.

The controls are simple. You add Webcams to the list with the green plus-sign button and delete them with the green minus-sign button. The document icon lets you edit a Webcam's properties. The red X on the main control panel closes all open Webcams, while the one below each thumbnail will close the camera. The blue arrow forces a refresh. Memory consumption ran about 12MB with 10 thumbnails and one main camera view. The demo crashed frequently, including every time we hit the Save Image button in the main window. Despite stability issues, Webcam Desktop Theater will give home users an enjoyable way to watch the world.

Webcam Desktop Theater is an excellent program. I read the guy above on Mar 16 review it, but he's reporting a negative review and admitted he NEVER TRIED IT. I was a bit worried but I downloaded it simply because there's very few out there like this, so I was kinda forced to pick this one. I liked the Kaxy site and felt it could be trusted. Considering the guy above did get his money back, hey, I went for it. AWESOME! If you can get it to work, and it's pretty darn simple, you can easily watch so many live video feeds all at once. It's really convenient and fun. But I did have a quick question and teh Kaxy people offered zero help. That's not too nice, but hey, the program worked, and works great. It's fun and very cheap, so I don't care. But hey Kaxy, ANSWER YOUR DARN EMAIL! [EDIT] I did finally get their response. Haha. They said they don't support this anymore. That's ridiculous, according to Download.com it's gotten 16,000 downloads in less then 2 years. Note to Kaxy... you may want to support something that's clearly being used by people. But again, the program is simpel and my question was very minor and they did help me, even though it took them a while.

Kaxy does not seem to support this anymore. Well, the rep I got said they don't support it anymore, but they did at least answer my questions so, who knows.

I was able to get my money back after the conclusion of the PayPal dispute process.

The first time I tried to download this, I kept getting a ".CC" file. <p> <p>When I downloaded through the "alternate download site," I got an installer which claimed that I didn't have the right version of some OCX file or such even though the file came with the software. I tried placing it in my Windows system directory where it supposedly goes; no luck. I tried downloading a version off the web and placing it there and then in the program directory; no luck. <p> <p>Persistent as I am, I went to the vendor (Kaxy) website and, after some searching, found the "home page" for the software, which required $14.95 paid through PayPal to acquire. I paid the $14.95, and...nothing. No re-direction to a download site; no e-mail from the vendor. <p> <p>After a few days, I tried e-mailing the vendor. No response. A few days later, I tried again. No response. I found their phone number on their website, and when no one answered (during regular business hours on a week day), I left a voice mail. No response. <p> <p>I finally filed a dispute with PayPal, and PayPal tried to contact the vendor. No response. After a week or so, PayPal ruled in my favor by default, and I received the money back three weeks after having sent it to the vendor. <p> <p>Long story short: My recommendation is, don't bother. CJF
