If you're willing to learn your way around the interface, this application makes a nice Spanish-language tutor. The program comes with a small deck of Spanish vocabulary flash cards that open as a cardfile, a quiz format.

Quiz cards appear in the first cardfile box. Answering correctly will send the card to the next box, while answering incorrectly or giving up sends it back to the first box. Scheduling options on the Cardfile menu let you set intervals for when you should go through each box to refresh your memory. You can download decks from the company's Web site or create your own. We downloaded several decks looking for multimedia content, but didn't find anything beyond images.

The New cards into cardfile at once option on the Compose menu lets you open any deck in quiz form. A radio button sets the cardfile to ask you for the front or the back, so you can use one deck to study Portuguese/English or English/Portuguese. The new version makes it a breeze to enter Unicode characters. With some effort learning how to use the program, users should be able to use VTrain (Vocabulary Trainer) to study many foreign languages.

Has more functions that CueCard.
Cons
Check out "The Mnemosyne Project" with a Google search to find a free flashcard software that uses spaced repetition to help you remember a foreign word forever. There's also pre-made decks that can be downloaded from the homepage for Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, etc.

This software is definitely recommended if you want to get a flashcard program. <p>- I like the boxes, they're a must have. <p>- Haven't tried the whol algorithm aspect of it.
Cons
Definitely needs to be more user friendly. It's just not intuitive enough. <p>- It could also use a little chornograph in the corner of the program.

If you guys want a free flashcard program that is better than Vtrain (IMO), has spaced repetition, HTML, and can have the answer section with on different lines, then check out "The Mnemosyne Project" with a Google search.
Cons
I've tried out Vtrain and it is just too complicated to use. Mnemosyne can do everything Vtrain can and is also more efficient to use.

You save a lot of study time with VTrain because, unlike other flashcard-based solutions, it schedules your repetitions is such a way that after only a few reviews are necessary, you get any foreign word into your long-term memory. The authors claim that VTrain has been registered by many universities. No surprise...
Cons
First-time users can get scared when they that VTrain uses two files at a time (one for the cards bearing the teaching materials, one for sorting out those cards). Read the tutorial and you'll overcome this blemish. In fact, I think this (admittedly odd) feature is actually necessary to make VTrain so powerful.

What I like most of this program is that draws up a timetable of spaced repetitions and reminds you when a flashcard has to be reviewed again. This way, you can beat the so-called ''forgetting curve'' with minimum effort. Although its interface is nothing for school children, adult users will find VTrain is an elegant and convenient solution to an often urging problem. --- BTW I do not agree with the C|Net reviewer when he says the help file was translated poorly. Admittedly, the language used sounds weird at times, but the Help file of this application is loaded with useful information for language learners.
Have had no bad experiences with this product.

I have never experienced a crash from this product. It didn't seem to leave a bunch of useless junk in the registry. I have been able to transport the dictionary files with no problems. Some of the features were not very intuitive.

Something i missed in similar programs - it uses separate files for editing and for training. Useful for me as a teacher, since I can amend the lessons while my students are drilling on them over a LAN. Files are synchronized all along!

--Selinaquinn, read this-- You can work around the lime green default bug just by saving a newly created deck of flashcards before inputting any data. VTrain is overloaded with features I did not know I needed! Groovy :-)

it's a lot easier then writing the cards but for some reason the font is defaulted at lime green and i can't figure out why or how to change it.
