Analyze your Internet connectivity with this program that combines Traceroute, Ping, and Whois tools in an intuitive graphical interface. When you have connectivity problems, VisualRoute makes it possible to track down which server is faulty. We plugged in a problem URL and VisualRoute quickly generated a map showing us the jumps our connection took around the world. We were quickly able to identify the problem server and reported it to the appropriate parties. This program works great for locating suspected intruders and can pinpoint the origins of malicious e-mails. It provides city and country locations of IP addresses to identify hackers before your system is compromised, as well as domain and network contact information for abuse reporting. Our one concern with this program is the part of the license agreement which states they can track your user information to enforce license compliance. This seems a little invasive and distrustful to users, but is certainly completely harmless. In spite of this shortcoming, we like using this program's intuitive controls and the ability to check connectivity on a world-map graphical interface.

Won't run on latest edition of Java (7).

Pros
Normal download install, and being a MAC product that means easy as pie.
Cons
The only comment I have is that it wouldn't run with Java 7, which many ppl have installed so they could run certain websites. Versions 6 & 7 seem to be mutually exclusive, and once you've installed Java 7 you can't go back. So I can't comment on the product at all and haven't entered any stars for it.
Summary
One star because it won't run. This may be harsh, so if someone can shed some softer light on this, please feel free to do so. Grazi.

Each time I tried to trace a source, the result came back that a lot of hops were necessary and this was probably due to senders having a firewall. Surely most sensible people do?<p>When I tried to uninstall it, it was not easy, and kept rejecting the administrator's password even though it was correct.

Analyze Internet connections and track network problems.

VisualRoute combines the tools traceroute, ping, reverse DNS, and Whois into a single graphical interface that analyzes Internet connections to quickly locate where an outage or slowdown occurs. An IP location database identifies the geographical location of IP addresses and Web servers, showing the path of an Internet connection on a global map. The 2008 release adds IPv6 compatibility, discovery of multiple paths to a destination and an updated IP location database.
